I just want to share the road where I do my daily walk.

I try to do 4.5 miles every day and it works out ok for the most part.

This is the time I use to clear my mind. The time I use to get centered

and plan for the rest of the day. I also use this time to ground my self.

At times the urgent takes the place of the important and we must

be able to differentiate the one from the other.

Whatever your routine is make sure that you keep it in mind.

Stay committed to you and your goals do not start your day

by losing the first battle to the comfy bed.

Cooking. The Other Art.

For those of us with a passion for cooking,

and the creation of great meals for us and

our loved ones, the term chef carries weight,

carries passion and a responsibility to the whites.

Those of us with the passion, and a desire to gain

control over our weight it becomes even more

important, and an intrinsic part of our day-to-day.

The knowledge to make a meal low carb, low salt,

paleo, or whatever the current “trend” is makes a

world of difference.

I personally know  that the knowledge has helped

me and others with the battle of the pounds.

I guess my suggestion is: Learn as much as you can

and use it. For the longest time I used to cook once

a week, for the whole week. It helped me stay on track

and I enjoyed that day creating good, tasty, flavorful,

nutritious meals within my diet limitations. My diet

for many years has been: Low fat, Low sodium,

Low carb meals. I really enjoyed grilling meats and

vegetables for my meals.  I also made at least two different

soups enough for 4 meals at least.

Cooking, good cooking is a pleasure. Learn and

take your skills for a spin.

Temptations Come

At the beach in Rosarito, Baja Mexico

Snacks on wheels.

Yes this is at the beach in Mexico.

If I am at home in Rocky Point or if I am at home in Rosarito

in Baja this candy store on wheels comes directly to you, on the

beach, with all kind of sweet or salty or spicy or any combination

of the three flavors that you can think of.

So if you like me like to get up early and go for a walk on the

beach before your morning coffee to get you started,

avoid this guys not because they are evil but because they

have all the temptations on one supped-up wheel barrow.

All joking aside we must be aware as best as we know of what

is waiting for us outside our door. I know that while in Mexico

I must be aware of the bakery shops. They use Crack in their stuff..

No they don’t but who can say no to a “concha” or an “oreja”, when

you have a great cup of coffee on hand and a whole empty hand

just begging for you to grab a piece of bread or two.

So I go for my walk and immediately take my happy butt back home

and have a good breakfast, then I can contend with the street vendors

and the bakery shop mafia.

The more we know and the better prepared we are the better our

chances for success.

Guys do not forget just how much we have to do to burn 100 calories

Don’t mess it up with empty food or useless fluids. Make every calorie count.

I remember my father saying this to my mom.

Yes, she didn’t think it was funny either.

The reason most of us choose to have WLS

was because we got to a point where we had

to do something.  So to realize that we were round

was a good thing. I know that I flew past 300#’s.

I know that the size on my shirts resembled a

brand of Mexican beer and then some.

I tried it all and then I found the lapband.

The Lapband, while not for everyone it did

work for me.  So if you are thinking about

going through the procedure, make sure you

thoroughly evaluate all the pros and cons as it

is not as some think “The easy way”. Read, ask

questions, find a reputable program with a good

surgeon and a great support program for post-op.

This is not a decision you are to take lightly.

Expectations.

I hate it whenWe must decide what it is that we want, and once we do that

take the steps to accomplish it. Not any easier but clearer.

We live in an “Immediate satisfaction” society that has no patience

for planning, and organizing but even less for consistent

on-going daily work.

WE, however understand that our commitment, planning,

and consistent work will provide us the success needed to

support the next round of battles.

Gang, we know that it is not the easy but the consistency where

the success lies.

Let us keep going so that we might continue to be examples

to those observing us, those wanting to attain some of the

same success nectar. Continue to be an example.

Continue to put the work needed.

Let us all continue to make progress, daily progress.

fitness ssIt is MONDAY. Let’s remember how much we have done

to get to where we are and make sure that we are

protecting the progress and success.

We must be ever vigilant and make sure that we continue

taking the basic steps to maintain our progress.

Drink water, remain active, watch the portion,

take you meds, take your vitamins you know the drill.

This is a change in life and not a band-aid on a small cut.

Success A Simple Approach.

S U C C E S S This is as good a KEY to success as any other I have ever seen.

I guess we continue with the theme of simplifying the process.

I like the way that things come together when we pay attention

to detail, and the little things.

It has been an eye opener to me ,having someone going right behind me

looking at what I am doing and how I am doing it.

It is a pain in the ass because she is also paying attention to

the things I am failing to do, but it is making me better as I progress

and move along the road to a better me.

Darren Hardy on his book the compound effect talks about

the benefits of tracking, and while I understood the concept

it was not one of my practices. Right now with the direction and

help of my Coach, I am getting much better at the whole tracking

thing, and I have found where I was paying a silly fat tax on some of

the calories I was consuming. Tracking has also helped me find

time that I can use to work on some of my other projects, and I have

another book almost ready to go to my editor.

Ok gang let’s continue to work on our better selves and

keep on keeping on.

What We Want To Be.

Weight loss is so much more than the way we look., it is also the way we feel and the way that we are perceived not just by others but by us as well.
We each have an idea an image of who we are and what we look like under the perfect circumstances but, we know that the perfect circumstances are seldom present.
Does that means that we settle or that we give up? No! it means that we continue to work at it and maintain the goal and the dream alive. We do this with our daily work and the image ever-present in our minds and hearts.
We fight with the tools and weapons that we each have at our disposal. We use the fork at the table and our legs in our walks. Exercise and diet. Patience and understanding. We use the knowledge that others have and so freely give to us by reading and acting on what other bloggers share.
I am so grateful to all of you that read what I write and the blogs that I follow. It reminds me that I am not alone and that in the end and in different ways we are not alone. We are all in this together.
I wish we could track the pounds that we are all loosing. Pound by pound we are making an ever-increasing dent on the mountain of pounds in front of us.
I thank you and wish all the success that our hard work deserves.
We are doing it.

There Is Work To Be Done.

On Life.

good things happenFor those of you familiar with my blog and

work you know that I have been working

on getting to my ideal weight yes., but I am also

working on creating a life I can feel proud of.

In the process of making a difference in and for

my circle of influence I have shared honestly and,

have contributed with advise from my own

past experiences.

Me just like you have had nice and significant

triumphs but had also to wrestle with the

Alligator of failure and short comings.

On the spirit of sharing I want to tell you the two

battle., this are things that are working for a

hard case like me so maybe they can make a

difference for someone else out there.

up and down the long hours of the day.

gets from me has had outstanding results.

recommend it? Well because in the process of

doing more than just loosing weight I am building

a life and a business and  there I have found real

people with real dreams and some of the challenges

that we all face. If you are working on more than

50 reasons to excerciseAll we need is one or two reasons and

a commitment to better health and a better life.

The thing is that commitment is not an easy

to get condiment. We have to actually love

ourselves more than we enjoy sleeping late.

Centered Approach.

we must figure out what works for us.

By not having a centered approach

we can miss out on the opportunity

to find the ONE thing that actually

could be a game changer.

I made it clear that my approach was

low carb, high protein, low sodium

and low-fat diet and the reason is

very simple to me: It Works For Me.

This was not about fancy advertisement

or a good-looking person on TV. I tried

many of the other diets and none of them

did it for me. This one did. NOW!! I am NOT

telling you to do the same but, what I am

telling you is that you should look and work on

finding the one that works for YOU.

I have purposely not used diet or product

names because I do not want you to assume

quality or efficiency on any of them. I want

for you to go and try so you can find on your own

the right one. POINTER  It all starts with you.

Figure you out and you will win.

YOU are worth it so please stay with it.

On Dreams.

dont folow your dreamsA dream can be that catapult that throws you

out of bed and onto the road to the gym or

for your daily walk.

A dream can also be that heavy rock that

takes your breath away when you realize

that you have not made it happen.

Regret for what we could but decided not to do

is a pain that we all have experienced at one

time or another.

Today in the here and now I decide

that my dreams are mine and worth the

effort. I want a better life. I want to loose the weight.

I have already too much that I regret and this

will not be one more thing.

Keep it close and personal. Keep those dreams

alive but as my father used to say: “Wake up

and go to work so your dreams can be reality”

Working On Me.

body under constructionIs it just me or, at times it seems harder to convince

our minds to get a “Move On” that it is for our bodies

to feel ready and up to it.

I noticed on my last visit to the gym that my mind

tried all the way through my work out to convince me

with many rather creative arguments that we should

just pack it up and go back home.

I am telling you all that I have long tiring arguments

about religion, politics and history and never have I

encountered a more determined adversary than

my own mind.

Quite a learning experience and I used a technique

an old trainer of mine thought me back in Mexico when

I was into competitive weight lifting.

He said “Win one battle at a time., first get up then

get out after that just get to the gym., Then is when it

will get interesting he said. One routine after another

and then and only then when you are done you can agree

with your reluctant mind and go home.

Never forget that every battle counts and you should fight

to the end and never ever give up because also, every

time you loose the battle it counts., it counts against you.

Nothing but winners here so gang let’s keep on keeping on.

friend Sam Crowley. Very good and inspiring stuff.

Scale Addiction.

forget the scale itNumbers can have tremendous power.

If we let them.

Numbers should serve the purpose of

inspiring and keeping us focus.

We can not allow a number to dictate how

our day will end or start.  BUT…

We can not allow either our whims and

moods to have a similar effect on us.

Weight loss with or without Weight Loss

Surgery (WLS) is a daily battle, a commitment

to a better, healthier life and as such it

requires planning, commitment and

execution. Plan your meals in advance,

make sure you are drinking the water,

when purchasing groceries keep in mind

your goal and limitations.

If you are past the surgery then you have

received all the training and instructions

to be successful. NOW Go Do It.

We are all in it so reach out if you have

Life. More Than Diets

There is more to life than just watching others live it.

Let us not forget that life continues and that we Should

Yes Dieting is very central to many of us but there are

those things that make us happy and allow us to

re-connect with the Real or Total Me/Us/I.

I share this photo of me in Charleston, SC where I had

a chance to enjoy one of my passions which is Photography.

I totally loved this trip.

I did re-gain some weight while there because I discovered

I had a passion for southern food. “Shrimp and Grits” Who Knew.

By the way if anyone of you ever, ever want to have the best

fried chicken in the world and I have had lots of fried chicken

all over but I have to take my hat off for the Fried Chicken at

(Drum Roll)  Magnolia’s Restaurant in Historic Charleston, SC

yes many claim to have a better bird but They Are Wrong.

Gang.. Do not forget to live while you are alive.

I know that some of my highest of highs and

some of my lowest of lows can be directly traced

to either a female or a meal. Go figure.

Food and eating can have a firm grip on what it is

that we can and will accomplish.

The addition of extra water and more

activities are always suggested when in the process of

starting or re-igniting a weight loss program.

Gang we must be in control of our monsters or

we will loose every time.

Here it is to us! The brave that confront the monster

of the pounds on a daily basis.

Is It Worth It??

easy no. worth it yes

A question well worthy of an honest answer.

In reality anything that help us live a better more

fulfilling life will always be worth it.

The dieting, excersise, walking and all kinds of physical

activity have benefits to them that go beyond any appearance

benefit. The increase of well being hormones. The changes

to our heart and yes the adjustment of attitude that always comes

with exercising.

It is absolutely worth it. Each and every time.

HAPPY NEW WEEK!!

How did we do this past weekend?

Did we stick with the diet? Did we drink the water?

Did we take the meds? Did we take our vitamins?

Anyway…. It is Monday and it is time for a fresh start.

Are we ready to change our life?

I find myself in need of a fresh start.  I find myself in the

middle of a BLAHHHH SEASON. And I have

Plenty of people to blame it on but the reality is that it is all

on me. Yes it is all on me.

That folks is a very empowering statement. Because by the time

some of you are reading this I will be pushing my self to do

what was my regular 4.5 mile walk. Yes I had abandoned it

because of pain and a bunch of other excuses and I really

can not afford to have excuses. I have too much shit to do

in life and well I just need to get with it.

My gym membership has expired as of yesterday and I am

not renewing it. There is nothing I was doing there that I can

not do on my own.  The only benefit I will not have is that

I will not be there for the senior citizen and pregnant woman

programs and I liked those because I felt young and skinny.

Yes I understand that is a bit of an ass-hole statement but hey

I took and used all the help and motivation I could get.

I noticed some guys checking out the younger chicks SORRY

NOT ME. That didn’t do shit for me other than make me

loose count and I had no time for that.

Guys… I know that I sound like a broken record but we really

must know ourselves. We must know our strengths and acknowledge

our weaknesses. (like my spelling)

Don’t go to the gym hungry. Don’t go to the gym with out a drink.

And please use the equipment and move on there are people

waiting that have stuff to do. Clean your mess too please.

Gang. It is Monday. Look at yourself and if you see the need for

change be honest with yourself. Better you than anyone else.

And try honestly to be the best you can be. It is worth it.

How To Loose Weight.

While there are many ways by which we can

loose a pound or two ending up in the Hospital

should not be one of them.

This particular experience was a bit on the

painful side. Here I was at the lightest weight

I had been in longer than I can remember but

due to medicine, treatments and some of the

other  issues I have been dealing with I could

not fit into any of my clothes.

When it comes to weight loss we must pay

close attention to both the size and the weight

but also what else is going on. Being lightly

dehydrated will have an impact on your weight.

Too much sodium in your diet and it affects

you as well. There is more going on at any

particular time so do not let a bad day mess

with you too much.

Day by day gang we build our success.

The Season.

I find myself nostalgic and missing my home

in Mexico. This picture was taken there

a while back., sitting on the balcony.

I am not there right now. Wish I was.

I went for my walk today and for the first time

I required a jacket. A sure sign that I will

need to be mindful about food as we approach

the season of the year when many of us do

the most damage to our plans and goals.

Gang. Our journey is not one where we have to

deny ourselves of everything we love to eat.

We must however start with a plan and a clear

and honest idea of what is going to happen.

I will on one day have mashed potatoes. I know this

and I know what day that will be. So before I sit

at that table I will force my self to drink two (2)

glasses of water and then and only then I will

confront the potatoes.

I have a plan. Maybe dumb and silly for some

but this will work for me.

During the season I will eat pumpkin pie, turkey,

gravy, etc. And I will enjoy it.. A Lot.

I miss Rocky Point, Mexico So Very Much.
