On Motivation.

Because we are all different we must find the thing that

uniquely motivates us to get out of bed, and get on

with the daily battle of the pounds.

Is it Music, passion, or just a number on the scale I don’t know

but whatever it is, you must find it and go forth with it.

Let us make an example of ourselves to those on

the sidelines and let us provide inspiration to others,

not because we are perfect or so accomplished but

because we are trying, and pushing, and not giving up.

We all need a push every now and then, so why not be

the push and example that others need and could

benefit from.

And a good MONDAY to us all.

Ok gang I have a question for all of us and here it goes.

If you were here, at the end and beginning of a nude beach

and you could see many girls and guys just having a blast

would you feel ok dropping your threads and joining them?

OR… Would the image in the mirror of the  prior morning

stop you from joining in the fun.

No Clue what your answer was but mine was a respectful and

considerate NO. I am not there yet. I think I would still walk by

being that I am an adult & all, but I would definitely not disrobe.

I am weird in that I truly do not care what people think but

for me it is in the knowing of the people around me OR not

knowing anyone.

Why this post? This one is to remind us all that if something, anything

is not where and how we want it them we must do something about it.

Don’t like how you feel? Do something about it.

Don’t like where you live? Do something about it.

Don’t like how you look? Do something about it.

Don’t like your job? Do something about it.

Not happy in your relationship? Do something about it.

Change is not easy but being unhappy and unfulfilled is worse.

In case you were distracted we have been given a brand new

week to go and try again. Let’s make it count.

On Heroes And Examples.

We all have people who influence us in different ways and directions.

I would like to introduce to you Benito Juarez. This is someone whom

I was thought to admire and respect. Actually When I became a Free-Mason

I purposely joined the most conservative lodge named after him. Little did I

knew that several family members were part of this lodge. It was very nice.

My point however is that we must pay attention to what we want and also,

to those around us.. We must never forget our goals and dreams and by

keeping them ever-present we will see the opportunities to make those

dreams and goals a reality.

What are your goals?? Do the people around you know them? Let me

share something, recently I was asking about a new product and a couple of folks

within my circle of friends were using it, and immediately recommended

who I could talk to not just to purchase but to join this program and try to

sell, and market. All I had to do was ask. At 17 years old I knew I wanted to

join a lodge and I went through hell to get a sponsor when, had I asked my

circle I would have found out that my uncle was the leader of the one particular

lodge I was interested in.  Go Figure.

Gang… Take advantage of who and where you are and ask, ask others

for help and assistance. Also, Make sure that you offer help and assistance

to others, never know when you might be just the perfect resource

someone needs to take the next step on their journey.

Yes it does.

The thing is that we, many a time keep around us people who

have no business being there.  People who fulfilled their

role in our lives, and who now should be on to other things.

But NO we insist on collecting people.

Gang life is a continually moving target and in order to

even try to keep up we must be ever alert to it.

We must be in constant guard with the three A’s of

Bushido in mind: Alert, Assess and Act.

Alert to what is around us.

Assess what is around us.

Act based on what is around us.

The act part is what gives most the hardest time.

We know what to do or what not to do but we many a time

choose with our inactivity.

We want it so now we must learn how to go after it.

We must learn how to remove obstacles even if they have a pulse.

It is our life, lets live it to its fullest.

Like my good friend tells me: “when it comes to the good in life

I want more., I always want more”

I guess I agree. I want more life, I want more health, I want more wealth.

I want to lose more weight, I want to feel much better.

I am ready to put my best effort to accomplish it as I know nothing

worthwhile is free.

Fear No Monday

One of the rules that I found is worth

of us always keeping is: “Never fail on Monday”

We must work out every Monday!

We must keep our Diet every Monday!

We must take our pills every Monday!

It has been shown in studies just how much

the “Monday Effect” can impact the rest of

the week., it seems that both monkeys and

humans tend to somehow be more inclined

not to follow through when Monday is not

addressed correctly.

A Good Bye.

 

The passing of a Friend or Friends.

Not too long I found myself at the lake of Davis Dam and

I realized that  it was going to be a bad day.

You see… My sandals that have been with me up and down the Caribbean

had seen their last day in the sun. Why is a pair of sandals so important??

Well it was a present from someone who would never again give me

even a glass of water. On top of that I have trekked up and down the

Pacific cost from South of Seattle all the way to Cabo, and the Atlantic

coast from North Carolina to the tip of Florida passing through South Carolina,

Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, California, Arizona,

Nevada, Sonora, Mexico. Sinaloa, Mexico. Baja, Mexico. Chihuahua, Mexico. St. John, VI,

Aruba, Barbados, Puerto Rico, etc, etc.,

I think you get the point.

I wish I had a Human Friend to have gone with me. None the least I will

miss my sandals.

Where have your travels taken you lately?

Let’s make life about getting better and enjoy what we have in front of us.

It is about living life to the fullest.

I gave my sandals a watery grave and went back home bare footed.,

floating on a cloud of memories. About 10 years of memories.

Helping The Excercise.

All the exercise in the world is wasted if we do not eat the right foods.

Every one should know what food and items are the ones that affect us

the most and for some of us, the solutions are not as clear.

I tried many different approaches before getting my Lap-Band.

I am proof that ALL Diets Work if only for a little while.

For me it is Low Carb, Low Fat, Low Sodium and it is good because

I do no crave sweets and I do love meat and seafood.

I enjoy walking and working out but, I enjoy eating even more.

I truly enjoy fish and grilled meats so it is lucky me, but if you like and

enjoy other foods then you must learn about portions and nutrient

density. Not all foods are created equally so the more we know the

better our decisions can be.

Keep learning, keep looking at your self and the results that come out

of your efforts, and every day you will be better and your results will be

more permanent. That is after all what we all want right???

Have fun with food, try new things, go to a restaurant you have never

been to. My last memorable restaurant experience happened  actually

years ago at a Texas Road House in Gilbert, AZ I think. I shared a meal

and even that I could not finish. It was a strange meal. It was a strange day.

I had a taste of chicken and a taste of ribs and a glass of water.

Enjoy the process but also enjoy the food and your meals.

It is all part of the process.

The Making Of Us.

This is true in more ways than one.

One of the best ways to ensure that goals are met

is to write them down. Also, it makes dreams and goals

more real, and present while making them significantly

more attainable. Your life is worth recording so invest

on a journal and see your life transformed.

Do not skip steps. Write that which is important and

relevant to you in life and see it become your reality.

How We Are.

The way I see it is: “Even Superman has his Kryptonite.”

And we are not as bad ass as Superman so we must be

“Super” careful. I know that French bread at Walmart

would kick my behind every single time so I avoid it.

I know that if I don’t do my cardio before I do weights

I will not really do either.

It is in the knowing, and knowledge of our weak areas

that our chance for success comes.

Acknowledge your strengths, and be mindful of your

weak areas, and you are half way there to be successful.

Make your plan, work your plan, watch the pounds drop.

Simple right?

Not Really. What is easy to do is easy not to do.

Want it bad enough and you will do it.

Expectations.

I hate it whenWe must decide what it is that we want, and once we do that

take the steps to accomplish it. Not any easier but clearer.

We live in an “Immediate satisfaction” society that has no patience

for planning, and organizing but even less for consistent

on-going daily work.

WE, however understand that our commitment, planning,

and consistent work will provide us the success needed to

support the next round of battles.

Gang, we know that it is not the easy but the consistency where

the success lies.

Let us keep going so that we might continue to be examples

to those observing us, those wanting to attain some of the

same success nectar. Continue to be an example.

Continue to put the work needed.

Let us all continue to make progress, daily progress.

Funeral.

fat funeralFinally a funeral we can all celebrate.

I do not know about you but my imagination is a

great tool for me. I imagine a counter over my head

that is keeping track of burned calories.

A funeral march for the fat that I burned,

and a band playing for the success it is

even to just show up.

Gang, use all you need and make sure that you

do not waste any of what is yours in your effort

to gain terrain at the battle of weight loss.

On Partners.

Remember how easy it used to be to

call on your friends and get to misbehaving?

How come it becomes so hard to find a partner

to work out and hold you accountable?

I have been trying for quite a while to find someone

to go to the gym with me and have been unsuccessful.

For many, what we do is difficult and weird or at least

inconvenient. The bad part is that as we go on

working out and exercising we get used to

doing it on our own and it makes it difficult later to

let anyone in the circle.

An accountability partner is always a good idea

so keep trying to find someone. And be patient

with them by the way. Remember WE are weird.

Keep the weirdness going gang who wants to be normal.

Normal is broke, Normal is fat, Normal is dull,

Normal is what NOT to be.

By the way. Those three monsters in the picture are

my kids Riley, Levi, and Logan.

Celebration.

YES!! I am happy to report that

Peter the Ferret has reached his

goal weight of 3.5 Pounds.

It took us a while for him to lose

8 Ounces.

Now I on the other hand, am still struggling

with my weight loss. Back to Peter now.

Just joking. Weight loss as we all know

is a challenge at its easiest. No matter ,

we do not stop, we keep trying,

we keep doing it.

That friends, is the only way

to do it and truly make a difference.

There Is Hope For Us All.

every saintThis gives me hope.

This makes me think that you and I regardless of

how flawed or great we think we are…. Well we have

a chance. There are possibilities in that even if we have

been taken for granted or people not only did not keep

their promises but failed us there is a future.

Today we end a season. This can mean a lot or

it can mean nothing. It is up to us.

What are we waking up with tomorrow?

Ideas and thoughts of power and progress OR

feelings of lost and less.

I hope and pray that we will all tomorrow JUMP

out of bed and run to meet the day and

the new opportunities.

Gang we know how to be and do good….

How about we push for great.

What if we work on excellent.

We deserve it and we know how to do it.

I am here. I have been here. I will be here.

I know what it is like when people promise and

offer to “Be There” only to be missing in action

when we actually need them.

That will not be me.

I will be here tomorrow like every day at 06:30

It is not 05:30 and it is not 05:40

It is 06:30 every day regularly from Monday to

Saturday and every now and then I will throw

a Sunday but personally Sundays are for

God, Family and friends. NO, Not necessarily

for church as I have found that God wants me

in other places at times.

Let’s end this year with a bang and start

the new year even stronger.

Weight loss just like most things in life

are affected by our way of thinking.

If you think that weight loss is of importance

then do not allow for your thoughts to have

so much power that you do nothing.

Weight loss is one of the most valuable

projects and activities in that, it will have

a real and direct impact in your life.

Health, longevity, energy, vitality, strength,

and for those of us with the lap band it is

to a point a matter of life and death.

If you need inspiration and are into podcasts

let me recommend one that has tremendous

value for me: Every Day is Saturday by a very

real and honest guy Sam Crawley. I listen daily

but specially when I need a little bit of inspiration.

Don’t tell him I send you there because he does

not know me just enjoy the message. He is on

iTunes if you have apple products but I listen to the

show on Stitcher since I am a Galaxy Fanatic.

About Believing.

champions believeI have a friend. She is one of those persons

that can inspire even the worst of cases.

She however, is unable to see in herself

all of the strength and inspiration that

she gives so many of us.

I wish I could say that I always see the

possibilities and opportunities but I have to

admit that many a time I too fall short in

noticing the good. Admiring the great.

Enjoying the amazing and forgetting the

shortcomings of those I expected SOMETHING,

ANYTHING from. After all it was my fault.,

it was I who bestowed upon them character,

compassion, values, and characteristics

they did not posses.

I keep screwing up and all I hear is “You are human”

Shit I want to be a perfect and awesome human.

I want to stop slipping on chocolate wrappers and

Vietnamese noodles.

Reality is that… We are humans and we will have

set backs and what we do is acknowledge and move on.

We must not stay and allow a moment to dictate over our

day or week. We acknowledge and move on.

No one died over a small pack of skittles or a bar of

Hershey’s Chocolate. (them Bastards)

It will happen and we must be prepared to deal with it.

The Difference Of 1/2 A Pound.

“Just 1/2 a pound.”

We at times seem to forget the power of compounding.

Darren Hardy the publisher of Success Magazine wrote the

amazing book “The Compound Effect” a book that I always recommend

to people going through a hard time accomplishing stuff in general.

this book is quite the handbook for change and accountability.

One 1/2 of a pound is a very significant amount of progress and

if you can manage to loose it consistently you are so far ahead few

will catch up with you.

All progress is significant and all progress is good.

Do not let small steps discourage you., instead push to make those

small steps the foundation of your major changes and accomplishments.

Funny Fact On People.

Funny how people

The moment that someone decides to stand outside

of the circle there is always someone to try and drag him

or her right back in.

I have noticed that with weight loss is even worst than

with money or even relationships.

People do not take kindly of friends loosing the pounds.

The first criticism comes as a direct attack of your diet

which ever diet it happens to be.

Then if you dare have any success get ready for the

attack on your appearance. It seems like immediately after

you loose a pound or two you become the living image

of the walking dead or at least that is what folks will tell you.

Remain focus and centered and keep doing what you must

to get to your desired goal.

It is not for them., it is for you.

On Problems.

“Only share problems with those that can actually

do something about them.”

Therefore I seldom share my problems with

anyone. I find it does nothing, nothing at all.

I am just tired of those that say: “I am here for you”

Of those that have said that to me I am yet in my

52 years of age to have ONE., just ONE of them

actually be there and be part of solution process.

Big difference from those that actually jump in

seldom saying a word about it and getting their

hands dirty and actually helping.

Maybe it is just my experience., I HOPE.

Do not forget that the weight loss process is

very much a personal battle and while it might

be nice to have a support structure around you

expect for this to be a lonely road.

Own your challenges. Push forward full force.

Be successful so that NO ONE can ever say

that your success was because of what “they”

gave you or what you “took” from them.

Stay in the fight and you will win., maybe

not immediately but eventually.

What is it that you see when you

look back at your life??

I see a level of activity that try as

I might I will never get back and

I hate it. I miss my crazy travel

and my late nights and extra early

mornings. I miss going places

carrying two or three cameras

and an ice chest of cold drinks

I miss the up and adam feeling

and doing more crazy stuff.

I still wake up at 5 every day

I still try to do what I love.

I still hope someday my wife

will get up with me and join me

but that is a “Never Will Happen”

that few, very few master.

Shit I just try to keep my head above water.

I try to work out every day.

I try to stay to my diet every day.

I work on woking on me every day.

AND THAT is what I wish you would do.

Reality of Pain.

fb_img_1445305804932For some of us the living in pain is a daily reality.

For me between the fibromyalgia or my

5L Parss Deffect or my damaged knee.

It is a reality and when trying to get help

we must add insult to the injury (pain).

My pain specialist Dr. Suttera has been

truly a God-Sent as he has worked with me

on a progressive plan that has given me

some relief.

It has been a long way of trial and error

with many meds until the right combination

was found.

Recently, however while out of state I had to

deal with the ignorance and over reach of

“Medical Professionals” who use their personal

bias to judge instead of their training to treat.

Anyway….. It was my back pain what finally

made me look for help and start on the long

road of weight loss and it has been precisely that

which has helped me the most.

I offer that if you are in pain or your blood

pressure or cholesterol are out of whack

“Lap Band For Men” well over two thirds

of the readers are females and I want to

acknowledge that fact. I started this “For Men”

because I could only share of what I knew and as

a guy I knew guy stuff.

As we rach over 450 posts I have learned from other

bloggers and friends and I try to share for everyone.

I thank you all for taking time out of your busy days

to read this and know that I will continue to respectfully

offer of my life, experience and opinion in an effort

to be of service.

Weight loss is a battle that so many of us are involved in

and obesity is an enemy that does not respect gender, age,

religion or sexual orientation so let us do all we can to

help and support one another.

Attitude.

screenshot_20170126-083141The one thing we can control is our attitude. It has been said

by many before us from Napoleon Hill, Zig Ziglar to so many others.

I have noticed that when my attitude is poor all kinds of SHIT

goes crazy. Just yesterday I misplaced my very expensive

remote control, mp3 player, camera, computer, scanner, etc.,

also call my Galaxy 6 cell phone. I do not call it a cell phone

because I do not have a cell plan attached to it. It is everything

but a phone but I digress., I misplaced it and I was going crazy

looking for it and that made me late for an appointment.

As I was beginning to rush and feel pressured and frustrated

I had to stop and make a re-adjustment of my attitude.

I immediately noticed as I did that my whole body relaxed and

I just accepted that I would be late and that it was ok.

Had I not done that I counted three times where I would have

endangered myself had I been trying to make up time.

No I am not saying that it is ok to be late but when stuff goes

wrong we must stop and consider.

Gang as we go on with our lives and learn how to improve

in even one small part of it please try to share your findings,

your wins as small as they might be. Find someone whom

you can help, guide or just be a friend to. Do not wait for

people to ask. If you can help, make a difference DO IT.

Other than our parents seldom will there be anyone

else who will take care of us and our needs.

Those of us who are lucky at one point or another

to find someone who will walk with us but, for the

most part and for most individuals it is up to he

or she to be a one person support group.

It is up to the individual to push and push hard

to accomplish things.

It is my opinion that there is nothing wrong

with taking care of me. I do not mean this

to say F…. all others but make sure that

we are doing and taking care of our needs

wants and self. Never at the expense of others

but always making sure we are keeping a healthy

dose of self-love.  It is necessary.

Sometimes the black and white helps us better

understand the impact of our actions in our lives.

It all matters, any activity is good and better than

doing nothing that is for sure.

My activity of choice is walking now but, in the

past it was running and boxing. Weight lifting even

though it was an important part it was also short-lived.

and not missed now.

Figuring out what we enjoy is important because

exercising is easy to do but also easy not to do.

Doing something we enjoy increases the possibility

of us staying with our routine while trying to force

ourselves to do something we hate well it would probably

not happen.

Find your sweet spot and stay with it so that your

weight loss plans work.

Keep losing the weight strengthening your body

and living a better quality of life.

On “Friends”

20150117_093219Hello Gang.

I want to introduce you to “Peter”

Peter is my ferret., he is also my one ferret

support and cheering group.

He is always there. When I pull the scale out

he climbs on it first as if asking me

“How are we doing today”

He then looks at me and gets off.

As some of you know I have been dealing

with health issues and Peter seems to

know when my pain is at it’s worst which

it’s often and he just lays there at my feet.

This little guy has shown me what loyalty

looks like. He makes no promises., he just

shows up.

He is my therapy on four legs.

I am grateful.

The Fabric Of Life.

would push us up in the morning so that we

might accomplish the goals and plans that will

make our life something to be proud of.

There are challenges and they will be around

for as long as we want to accomplish and grow.

The difference is in how we confront the challenges.

We are made to succeed and we can if we

pay the price.

How much have you increased the distance

of your walks? For how much longer can you

work out? How much better do you feel?

When we pay the price we increase our stamina

and strength. Let’s do it. Let’s be better.

The Boys.

20160111_133511This little guys are Bear and Peter.

They have the same addiction my wife has

and that is Mountain Dew.

Just like them and my wife WE all have

some foods or drinks or habits that we carry

with us much as a pet.

One of the things we need to do is realize and

be honest about our habits both good and bad.

We can not change or adjust something we are

not aware of.

My challenge was Diet Coke. I could drink Diet Coke

all day every day but now I go months with out drinking one.

So I suggest that you do some soul searching and

figure out what is there that is holding you down or

keeping you from making a difference and work on

being rid of it.

All my life I have had a love-hate relationship

with Dietitians. Every single one of them I have

had the pleasure to deal with has been a Liber..

Anyway… Having had to live in the real world

with real limitations and visiting with real flesh,

fat and bones persons I quickly realized that some

of the classic ideas and thoughts pushed by RD’s

were BS for the regular salt of the earth person walking

your street, USA.

This cartoon reminds me of just one example.

I struggled for years trying to lose 20 pounds. Yes you read

that right. MY first attempt was only a small 20 pounds and

I failed for the longest time.

Years later as part of my internship for my CDM (clinical

dietary manager OR  certified dietary manager) I did my

paper on the Atkins Diet. At that time I was at about

335 #’s and I threw my self into this paper and this

diet. I went from 335+ pounds to 225 pounds in 3 months.

My labs were amazing. My back pain gone, My stamina

through the roof. I felt great.

I lacked the discipline to keep it off and with my internship

and graduation behind me I revert to bad habits.

My point here is: Not all diets work for everybody, Not all

predicated concepts are fail proof. Not all that is pushed

on us by the ADA is perfect. And most important we  must

gather as much information and educations so that we might

find what works for us. Atkins worked for me but it does not

mean that I think It would work or that it should be tried by

everybody., far from it. We are all way too different. but,

Once you find what works for you make sure you stick

to it as there is where the lasting results await.

Stay committed to your goal. Remain centered on health.

Keep your goals and dreams present so that your work will be

enjoyable and satisfying.

On Fear.

ups and downs. It is a known fact for those of us

that have gone through Weight Loss Surgery or

the more common term “Lap Band Surgery”

that our bodies will react differently at different times.

There are times when regardless of us following

the rules to a T we do not lose an ounce and,

at times we get on the scale more in jest than

expecting any weight loss and are floored by

the number on the scale.

While at times we will be unable to follow our diet

for a variety of reasons we must ALWAYS

keep our dreams and goals in mind.

Gang it is our life and our health., let’s make

the most of it.

Weigh the food, drink the water, take your meds,

don’t forget your vitamins. Do What You Know

Is Expected Of You and the results will show up.

Let’s continue with this project we have set for us

and know that I am here as a resource should you

ever need it.

True Relationship.

_20160621_114410It is rare and not at all a common thing

to find, to have a good supportive and

nurturing relationship.

Relationship implies a two way street.

While I, myself have had countless

failures in this area I was also blessed

to have found and been able to enjoy

my relationship with my now wife

Amy. This gives me a never before

opportunity to live and enjoy a simbiotic

raltionship that both feeds and nurtures

both of us. Our shortcommings made

less by the conection and joining of

strenghts. Our good and positive traits

highlated by the acceptance and contribution

of that our better half

I have since my encounter with this rare

and magical unicorn of a great woman

done and been to places that never did

I thought I would or could.

That whole Hawaii trip is still something

I am working on. I do not have ANY INTEREST

in going there. Sorry there seems to be not

a thing there for me but against every single

fiver in her body she ate crab, shrimp, lobster

and some other sea cratures with me so

I think this argument I am luckily going

to loose.

Hawaii…. Yes she wants it and she is going

to get it.

I am lucky. I found not only my equal but

my better half. She is half my brain

both my left and right arm and the best

of me I never knew I had.

Gang I hope you are ever as lucky as I am.

Pay The Price.

Your goal is your own and it is

what you want it to be.

Regardless it comes with a price and

that price can not be paid by anyone else.

The great thing is that no one else can

show and brag about the results.

Our weight loss journey, this road to

better health and more stamina is

not and it has never been an easy one

but both you and me know that it is a

worthwhile effort.

I hate that feeling of “No Energy”

it drives me nuts. I have always hated early

mornings but I always pushed and was

able to function and function at a high level.

When I am not on my diet and doing my

walk I have trouble stretching, walking and

even concentrating. I hate it.

Gang we know what we need to do.

We know the why and most of us are

working on the how that is after all why

we read books and blogs like this one.

Please remember that also by sharing of

our experiences we are part of the solution.

Please share with the rest of us if you

have a killer Ninja Tactic to get up in the

early morning or if you have a killer recipe
