GOALS

New Weight Tracking Form

The importance of GOALS.

Zig Ziglar Once said “With Out A Goal You will Miss Every Shot You Take”

We need something to shot for, and have in our minds a clear idea of what it is that we want, and where do we want to end at in our journey.

I promised on my last post that I would make available to anyone who “Asked” my goals and daily activity sheet, but as I thought about it I decided that I would just make it available on the blog so that I could make it easier for people to see and use.

I ask you to please look at it and if it works for you please by all means use it. BUT, please let me know what you think and maybe., some ideas as to how we can make it better so that we can together help others work on their goals.

Those of us that already had our surgery know that we had an idea, a goal, a dream of who and how we wanted to look at the end. I am not different or better than anyone else so I have made use of every tool I could get my hands on. This form is the result of me wanting to keep that idea clear in my mind, but also keep the accountability where it belonged: ON ME. I wanted to keep the dream alive and present.

If you see the guidelines that have been set for us maybe just like me you will say: “they are out of their bleeping minds”. I did. According to the American Dietetic Association I should weigh at the most 178 #’s being that I a male and I am 6 feet 1 inch tall. Yeah Right.

When I got down to 230 #’s I look like I was sick. Everybody was worried that I had contracted some kind of sickness or something. I felt great though. I think that the main reason I look “not good” was that I was not exercising or doing much activity. Now, I have learned and I want to get to and remain between 200 and 230 #’s. As I have increased my activity level I noticed that my face and body look better. I know by looking at my self and not paying attention to what anyone else says or thinks that I am on the right track.

People, please make sure that you have a goal in mind that is YOURS and no one else. Make sure that you are doing this for YOUR own reasons. Make sure that this process is something you are doing because YOU want it, and answer to YOU and only to YOU.

I have mentioned a picture. The picture that made me decide to take extra measures. I realized that I had let go of me, and I needed to fix me. I needed to bring me back.

I was sick and tired all of the time. I was in the worst shape of my life even though someone told me (trying to be funny) that round was a shape. So here it is.

I thank her for allowing me to post this picture. I do not know who should be more embarrassed, if I for allowing myself to get this big. OR her for being seen with me.

Guys we all have different reasons to do what we do so make sure that you have yours, and that they are important enough for you to always keep in mind and make you stay focused.

I will also add the form and hope that it will be of use to you, and that you will please post a message letting me and others know what it is that you think and how you think we can make it better.

I thank you, and I hope I was of help. The link for the form is at the top of this post.

Therapy Any One?

24dd3d98cd4ab1f9217bf1887394b83aThere are times when I get the biggest charge

out of a visit with Mr. Punch Bag.

At times, it is not about exercise or burning

calories, and it turns into plain and simple therapy.

At times, I admit I might make Mr. Bag pay for

the silliness, stupidity and shortcomings of others

and myself as well.

All aside I do enjoy how I feel after a session with

the bag and I find that when done properly I use my

whole body and the workout is great.

For those of us with a Lap Band, exercise should be

an intrinsic part of our days in order to keep, and add

to our weight loss numbers. Also, it helps maintain

our weight loss rhythm.

Gang when you don’t have a whole lot of time

try a session with the bag and see how effective

it can be.

Stay focused stay successful.

Focus On The Right Things.

focus on health

It is important to be clear on what we are working towards.

It is important that we keep our hopes and dreams present.

Each dream, hope, goal is personal so make sure you are not

falling prey to group mentality. Take support and accept the

help but also, keep in mind your own goals, dreams, hopes.

It is not about becoming an island, it is about becoming a

success story. It is not about just one thing, but it is about

getting that one thing important to us personally.

Stay focus remain successful.

Feeding the soul.

cooking with love

We must love ourselves enough to take the time

to take care of ourselves and those we care about.

We can show and share love with the meals we cook.

In order to take care of others we must take care of

ourselves. In order to accomplish our hopes and dreams

we must take care of our bodies first.

A meal might not seem so important, but those of us

working on losing the weight, regaining our health,

it is very important. It is center in our day-to-day.

Weight loss is never easy so we must take every single

opportunity that presents itself to make a difference,

even a small difference is important.

Do not forget: Every meal counts. Every calorie counts.

Cooking. The Other Art.

chef shirt

For those of us with a passion for cooking,

and the creation of great meals for us and

our loved ones, the term chef carries weight,

carries passion and a responsibility to the whites.

Those of us with the passion, and a desire to gain

control over our weight it becomes even more

important, and an intrinsic part of our day-to-day.

The knowledge to make a meal low carb, low salt,

paleo, or whatever the current “trend” is makes a

world of difference.

I personally know  that the knowledge has helped

me and others with the battle of the pounds.

I guess my suggestion is: Learn as much as you can

and use it. For the longest time I used to cook once

a week, for the whole week. It helped me stay on track

and I enjoyed that day creating good, tasty, flavorful,

nutritious meals within my diet limitations. My diet

for many years has been: Low fat, Low sodium,

Low carb meals. I really enjoyed grilling meats and

vegetables for my meals.  I also made at least two different

soups enough for 4 meals at least.

Cooking, good cooking is a pleasure. Learn and

take your skills for a spin.

Stay focus remain successful.

A Walk.

DSC_0024

Where have your walks taken you?

Walking is one of my favorite activities,

I enjoy taking off and then see where I end up.

This particular walk started at the touristic

malecon in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, it ended

Way the hell two colonias/neighborhoods away.

The point for me is, ten thousand steps a day

is where I like to start., from there we shall see.

My diet, my life, my work, and most everything

else seems to work better when I daily take my

long walks.

The messed up part is that at times I go long times

not taking them, and I should do better since I do

know better than that.

Gang. Whatever it is that makes things work for you

please be good to yourself and: Do It.

Want success? Do what works!

This is Jon Hamm. He is one of the guys I admire

a lot. He takes care of himself and looks great always.

I love motorcycles and hope to one day look that cool

on one. Nothing like hitting the road, getting on the wind.

The other thing/experience that feels good is when you

get on the scale and it gives you the numbers you want.

I recently got on the scale and did not like what I  saw.

I got on the program again and I have already lost 6 pounds.

I am at 59 #’s from my goal. I will make it. I will make it soon.

Gang as you might have noticed I have not post as regularly

as I am used to, but I am back and will get back on track.

I love and enjoy photography.

Reading the message in the photo made me

think of taking photos with film, we get one chance

and we best not waste it because it is gone.

In some ways it is the same with life, opportunities

and adventure come and if we are not aware

the chance is gone.

Weight loss is also like that. We make many

small decisions and if we are not aware it is easy

to mess up. My mother told me many a time:

“Nothing is as easy as being mediocre”

I ask you not to be mediocre. I hope my efforts

keep me from being mediocre.

Carbs. Is there anything more scary

to many dieters?

I, myself am on a low carb diet, but I

am not letting that rule the whole of

my process and weight loss efforts.

There are times when I need or want

something and I get it. I know that  want

as I might at times I either want, need, or

deserve a treat, reward, or fix and I do not

deny myself.  I have however learned to

differentiate a one time thing from a whim.

Keeping goals and priorities present helps

to limit the number of exceptions and that

is always a good thing.

On shapes and pounds.

8e1ec883c1ef4105d700302d7d09fb7b

I remember my father saying this to my mom.

Yes, she didn’t think it was funny either.

The reason most of us choose to have WLS

was because we got to a point where we had

to do something.  So to realize that we were round

was a good thing. I know that I flew past 300#’s.

I know that the size on my shirts resembled a

brand of Mexican beer and then some.

I tried it all and then I found the lapband.

The Lapband, while not for everyone it did

work for me.  So if you are thinking about

going through the procedure, make sure you

thoroughly evaluate all the pros and cons as it

is not as some think “The easy way”. Read, ask

questions, find a reputable program with a good

surgeon and a great support program for post-op.

This is not a decision you are to take lightly.

A walk or a run???

66f9966a18f15901a90023115bbbc1f9

The younger version of me used to belong to

a military style health group in Mexico and

routinely run about 15 kilometers.

NOW, I can talk about it but in no way am I

in the physical condition to do even half of that.

I enjoy my crazy, long walks in all kinds of crazy places.

While my walks are not what they used to I still

enjoy the activity and how I feel after I am done.

Whatever your routine is, make sure that you are

doing something you enjoy so you ensure that you

will continue to do it. The only thing I do that I do not

is a leg work out when I am at the gym. Since, at the

present moment I am unable to join or attend a gym,

well I do not much worry about it. Does anyone else

hates leg day at the gym???

I laugh every time I see this.

But, it is also worth taking a moment

and thinking about what in our lives

we can actually change.

I do not want to be overweight, and even

though it is a hard up-hill battle I stay at it.

I want to reduce the risks of high blood pressure,

high cholesterol, stroke, diabetes, and more

I am genetically vulnerable to thanks to family history.

Those are things I can do something about. I can watch

my weight, control what and how much I eat,

have a plan and work the plan.

If we have friends and family, we owe it to them,

and ourselves to take better care of our health.

Inform Yourself.

lapband1

What is a Lap Band or more appropriately

a gastric band? Well… It is a tool that some of

us with a chronic weight problem have obtained.

It is a medical device that when used correctly

assists with a reduction of food consumed.

Anyone who is considering this as an option

must not only educate themselves but they

should absolutely sick professional assistance.

There are many programs and I will NOT here

recommend any one specifically, I will however

recommend that you find a surgeon that has lots

of experience. My surgeon was by far one of the

biggest assholes I have ever met but, but he had

more experience than all the others combined.

As a result I was in for surgery at 10 or 9 AM, and

by 1 PM I was at the market buying soup to take

home with me for later. I was given pain medicine

and I have to say I needed none of it. I was told that

I would be out of commission for at least a week, but

I was back with my regular life in 3 days.  I was going

crazy with the lack of activity.  Please note that this

was my experience and yours or anyone else’s might

be significantly different.  I had a great surgeon but

a crap support program. (I am sure it was my fault)

Considering this or any other WLS??? Inform yourself.

My Choices

Why is it that we trust “Tomorrow” so very much?

Not a single day is guaranteed to us but continue

to trust, and leave for tomorrow that which we

should absolutely take care of today.

Every day wasted. Every day we put the diet, water,

medicine, exercise, and so much more will never be

given back. It is past and wasted.

It is our decisions that will make a difference.

If we want health and a better quality of life, then

we must pay the price. Take the medicine, drink the water,

exercise at least three times a week, walk as much as you can.

Do it all, do some, do something, and see the results.

It is within all of us. It is real, and it is possible.

Let us go out every day and try to be more, better.

Truth And Reality.

One does not justCrazy how simple the truth sounds.

Hard as hell some times but always well worth it.

People think at times that those of us with a lap band

have an easier go at it but they are wrong as any one

with Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) will quickly tell you.

We must pay as much attention if not more to what we

eat, how we exercise, how much we chew, the amount

of water we drink, the way we take our meds, the extra

vitamins that we need to take, and on, and on, and more.

Regardless the temptations are there and there are real.

The desire for sweets or an extra portion of food is just

as real as it is for anyone else. WE just have an extra tool.

Never forget that a tool in order to be of help must be

used or it is irrelevant.

The decisions we make have an impact and we must

be ever vigilant as we can be as weak as anyone else.

One thing that we should do is always keep our goals

and dreams ever-present because that is the only

way that the what becomes more possible.

Never stop. Keep trying and continue to work on

your goals. Weight Loss, more money, a better relationship,

anything you want is possible if you pay the price.

Keep it present, keep it real, keep it possible.

Weight loss just like most things in life

are affected by our way of thinking.

If you think that weight loss is of importance

then do not allow for your thoughts to have

so much power that you do nothing.

Weight loss is one of the most valuable

projects and activities in that, it will have

a real and direct impact in your life.

Health, longevity, energy, vitality, strength,

and for those of us with the lap band it is

to a point a matter of life and death.

If you need inspiration and are into podcasts

let me recommend one that has tremendous

value for me: Every Day is Saturday by a very

real and honest guy Sam Crawley. I listen daily

but specially when I need a little bit of inspiration.

Don’t tell him I send you there because he does

not know me just enjoy the message. He is on

iTunes if you have apple products but I listen to the

show on Stitcher since I am a Galaxy Fanatic.

Figure it out.

4ea7f2962de900e2a3ede72278ea9def

I found this picture by accident and it made me smile.

Just to be clear it is not one of mine.

Few things make me as happy as when I see one of

my kids or someone important to me with a camera

on their hands.

My father was in love of the still image and even though

he never actually did push it further he did get joy of

taking a pic and then sharing them with anyone who

happen to be near by.

I love photography and even though I have had some

success with it I find that there is so much still that I

have to discover and learn.

Gang. We are all different creatures and the things that

inspire us are different. Please, Please look deeply within

and get after it. If you are here you have thoughts of loosing

weight as I and so many others have. But, but there is more,

more to all of us and it would be a shame for “IT” for that

thing or things that are unique for us to go to waste and be

lost because we were not willing to pay the price.

I will not ever say that it will be easy because those things

that are worth it never are easy. But it will be worth it and that

I can say to you with not a single doubt.

Keep the desire to lose the weight but look more and deeply

at you and go for it. Go make it happen.

need to pay attention to. It is also

how and what we feel inside.

Gang stay focus and enjoy what you

have earned. Health, strength, stamina,

endurance, passion, and extra days.

Add beauty to your walk.

DSC_0262

When I go for my walks I try to take a camera

or my galaxy-6 which has the best camera for

a phone I have ever had.

Going for walks I have made about more than

just the exercise. A lot I do is set around me

getting my walks, and finding appropriate places

to eat but regardless; I keep low carb snacks in

my camera bag.

A lot to ensure weight loss is proper planning.

Having a plan for where to eat. Having a plan for

when there is nothing appropriate to eat.

When I know I will be gone for hours I pack snacks,

and my green juice which I make fresh on my

super-duper juicer my wife got me as a gift.

I think she got tired of the noisy old one.

It is hard to lose the weight specially when

we get to a certain age (I am 52), so I try not

to destroy my efforts by eating 1000 calories

when it took me 1.5 hours to burn 600.

Gang find a powerful why and then plan on

an amazing how when it comes to your walks

or going to the gym.

Stay focus remain successful.

Opportunities.

DSCN2224.JPG

Is this a sunrise or a sunset?

The end or the beginning?

It is up to you, me, us.

We get at least one of this every day

and what we decide to do with it,

well it is up to us.

It is within us to decide to make it

better, worse, or pathetically the same.

So I ask you once again…

What is this???

More importantly I ask you:

What will you make of it?

Gang stay focus stay successful.

By the way this is a sunset somewhere

in the Sonoran desert in Mexico. I went

for a walk and 2 days later on my way back

I took this picture.

Commitments

DSC_0026

Someone told me once:

“You talk about always doing your walks

as if it was the easiest thing to do. It is

not always easy or practical you know.”

I took this picture on one of my walks

in Espanola, NM. The temperature was

below zero but I still went for my walk.

This does not make me better than anyone

else but it does makes me more committed

to my goals. There are times when I can not

go for my walk for a variety of reasons.

Tomorrow for example due to family

challenges I will not be able to go for my walk

and that is ok. I do not kick myself for it, and

instead I will be over careful with what I will

eat and drink.

I do not believe that we should be slaves to

our schedules but I firmly believe that we

must honor our commitments.

In the end, we can only do the best we can do.

Gang keep your goals and plans ever-present.

I need to travel.

DSCN6006

Even though I go on short trips

today I find myself longing for a

long trip. Many miles, many days.

This picture of me was taken somewhere

in historic Charleston, SC.

Great weather, great food, good drinks.

Our lives are about more than just work or

paying the bills or losing the weight.

Life is about living it some.

This photo safari had me walking several

miles and taking many pictures.

Great times, great memories.

Go out and make some memories of

your own. Put some miles under your feet

and eat some amazing meals.

If you have a significant other just imagine

the impact this could have in your relationship.

Keep moving, doing and experiencing more.

RE FOCUS

3 choices

How often do we re set our goals and expectations?
Our goals must be clear and concise so that as we work with the end in mind the image is clear and inspiring.
But it must also be flexible so we can adjust as our expectations may at times fall short. Inspiration, frustration, desire, etc., will at time make us over reach., we don’t give up or change our goal but in order to continue we adjust. Maybe we change our workout schedule, maybe we adjust our walk distance, maybe we switch our work out days, etc., we adjust but we do not abandon our goals. We don’t abandon our dreams. We don’t abandon Us.
All the success in the world for you. Stay focus Remain Successful.

Those of us fighting the  battle of the pounds

should know that the size of our results

will be equal to the size of our committment.

For those of us with the lapband well things

are a little different. Many would think it is

easier for us but, we know it is not so.

Keep pushing. Measure your food, drink your

water, take your meds, exercise regularly.

Stay focus remain successful.

A Walk Of Perspective.

066.JPG

If you want to see just how small

our problems really are go for a walk

on the mountains.

Talk about getting some perspective.

This picture was taken somewhere

up in the Arizona mountains. NE of

Phoenix. I know that my mind was

heavy with issues and this trip help

me get some perspective.

Things will happen and how we react

will have a huge impact on everything.

I know my reactions have affected my

health, emotional stability, stress levels,

and so much more that I, and you should

know better but it don’t always works that way.

I guess what I am trying to tell you gang

is that in order to protect ourselves and

so be able to be the best we can be,

we must “kind of” stop every now and then.

Think before reacting.  And yes some times

Shut The Heck Up.

Gang let us do the best we can for all but

specially for ourselves.

Mistakes.

b3484c816ba990b5ff29e5cd2299497f

We ALL have made mistakes

that is not the important thing here.

The important thing is: Have we learned

the lesson???

Our mistakes are expensive and at times

painful lessons so we might as well make

the best of it.

Do not let failure and mistakes keep you

from making the best of your experience.

Learn, Grow, and do more.

Keep your goals and plans ever-present.

Weight loss, relationships, money, or

whatever your goals and plans are will

always come to fruition if you keep learning

and keep pushing.

On Goals, Dreams, and Miles.

Come And Enjoy The Water!

Recently we have talked about goal setting.

Have you added some travel to your goals??

In our planning calendar I have been told

there is a cruise to Mexico. There is a trip

to Texas (Austin for some big to do SXSW)

Hell I would have gone for the BBQ at Franklin

BBQ and would have enjoyed waiting in line.

Also the possibility of spending some time

in Seattle (Comme to Papa Clam Chowder)

I am looking forward to many great walks

and maybe a few good pictures. The one that

I am featuring on this blog was taken at

Little Corona in Corona Del Mar, CA

One of the most amazing places I have

been to.

I guess what I am trying to say is: Get after it

Yes we want to lose the weight but we have

a life to live as well.

Gang I hope your plans and goals are solid

and important enough for you to have put

them on paper and ever-present.

Choices. Today or Never.

3 choices.jpg

We all have choices.

Sometimes we make the wrong ones.

Most times it is there for us to make

the right choice.

The day by day choices are what say

what it is that we will accomplish and

it is us and only us who are responsible

for the results.

No one else to blame.

In the words of Tony Soprano:

“I have but my self to blame”

Gang let us make the right choices.

Let’s lose the weight. Let’s live a full

satisfying life. Let us make the right

Choices.

Do It Now.

do it now

Once we have identified what it is

that we want or need to do the next

step is clear…. Massive Action.

Nothing takes the place of committed

action in order to accomplish that

which we want to have.

Weight loss, a different relationship

or anything else of value to us.

Gang it is all there for the taking

just get after it and it will happen.

The Meds Of Our Lives

62e621d57597a4db42872e9247641e16I see this and it reminds me of a friend who

suffered from by-polar disorder. He would say

to us all “If I start acting like all you crazies please

ask me if I took my meds” He was great.

Now back to us. If you had WLS you should be

on vitamins. If you have high cholesterol or issues

with your blood pressure you probably are on meds.

Where am I going with this? We Must Take Our Meds.

We must take our meds as prescribed.

I loved it that as the weight fell off my daily meds

count went down as well. I went from 12 and 15

pills a day to now only two and I am working on them

as well. I want out of the pill club.

Gang is we do the right things progress will happen.

A reduction of the meds we are on should be a goal

we work for.

Stay focus and remain successful.

Steak Or Salad? Your Choice.

6c1435e46950c46e32df7dccd81d14b8

Before you start with the hate mail

let us have a sense of humour.

I can never be a vegetarian and will

never pretend that I can.

I myself enjoy meat too much to

move away from it.

So have a laugh and move on.

Figure out what you enjoy and what

gives you pleasure and rock on

with your bad self.

Back To Basics.

182dc612b1c12d89233e96c4505a66ef

Going back to basics is very much

needed and we shall pay attention

to those basics we are missing.

For those of us with WLS weight

loss surgery the basics are made clear

before we get our surgery.

Drink the water. Take you meds.

Drink the water. Chew twice as much

Take your vitamins.

We know this things and yet many

of us if we are honest know that we

fall short in one or more of this

basics.

Gang we must stay focused if

we want to be successful.

Personal Change.

2dd73e9468bbb0fab3b59644557214f1

As we plan our goals for the year 2018

let us not forget that the battle IS NOT

to be better than others but to be a better

version of our previous selves from yesterdays.

The true battle if to figure out our weak areas.

Finding where the work is most needed is

a triumph in and by itself.

Winning is and should be about winning over

our weak and flawed selves. There is where

lasting change and triumphs lay.

I wish you all the success possible as this year

ends and the new year starts.

Let us be better every day.

Jose G. Osuna

So let’s be honest here.

What are WE made of??

Are we made of steel or are we made

os aluminum?

Figure it out and be honest.

I know that for some things I have been

as strong as Play Dooh and at times

my metal has been hard as steel.

Not always but at times and in some

things.

The goal… Out goal should be to

always be made of steel.

Let us do our best.

Let’s be made of steel.

Stay focus and remain successful.
