I just want to share the road where I do my daily walk.

I try to do 4.5 miles every day and it works out ok for the most part.

This is the time I use to clear my mind. The time I use to get centered

and plan for the rest of the day. I also use this time to ground my self.

At times the urgent takes the place of the important and we must

be able to differentiate the one from the other.

Whatever your routine is make sure that you keep it in mind.

Stay committed to you and your goals do not start your day

by losing the first battle to the comfy bed.

Dont everEvery day we compromise. We give in a little

and before we know it we have gone too far.

It is not just in the giving but also in the taking,

and accepting that we can find our life taking turns

that we had never plan or even considered.

We must stand resolute in what we want.

We must remain focus and centered so that

our hopes, dreams, and goals stay in the place

they deserve.

Our life is worth of us showing up with our

“A” game. It needs our total and complete

commitment so eventually we can look back

at an imperfect but complete road and be able

to say with pride “Wow, What a ride., I did

Success A Simple Approach.

S U C C E S S This is as good a KEY to success as any other I have ever seen.

I guess we continue with the theme of simplifying the process.

I like the way that things come together when we pay attention

to detail, and the little things.

It has been an eye opener to me ,having someone going right behind me

looking at what I am doing and how I am doing it.

It is a pain in the ass because she is also paying attention to

the things I am failing to do, but it is making me better as I progress

and move along the road to a better me.

Darren Hardy on his book the compound effect talks about

the benefits of tracking, and while I understood the concept

it was not one of my practices. Right now with the direction and

help of my Coach, I am getting much better at the whole tracking

thing, and I have found where I was paying a silly fat tax on some of

the calories I was consuming. Tracking has also helped me find

time that I can use to work on some of my other projects, and I have

another book almost ready to go to my editor.

Ok gang let’s continue to work on our better selves and

keep on keeping on.

On Self Love

Why we do what we do? I had to learn that while it was ok to continue to give to others and of my self., I had to find love to and for myself. It is not an egotistical journey but an adventure of discovery and self realization. I celebrate a pound lost or a size reduced. I am happy for an inch and happy for a ounce. I am happy to be doing better. Celebrate you progress. Because I am sure you will agree that not going back is progress in and of it self. Staying at the same weight for a long time is an issue but from one week to the next it just means that you were able to deal with cravings and temptations. Just Do Not Go Backwards. What Am I?

Enjoying The Process.

keep cookingI had a visit with my Coach.

She pissed me off by being right once again.

She reminded me of the part I took in re-gaining almost

a hundred pounds yes that is 100 pounds.

She tells me “you did not just trip and fell a top 100 pounds worth

of fat and food., it was an active choice of putting in your mouth.,

more food than you should have.”

“It was not something that happened in a day or two so stick to

the program day in and day out and you will see the progress”

She is right and I know it I am just not the most patient of guys

and I hate being told what to do (I am sure I am the only one.).

But the fact remains that with her help I have already

lost several pounds and did it faster.

She is helping me reconnect with my passion for cooking and

using better techniques and better ingredients that will in the

long run help me maintain my weight loss.

On Life.

good things happenFor those of you familiar with my blog and

work you know that I have been working

on getting to my ideal weight yes., but I am also

working on creating a life I can feel proud of.

In the process of making a difference in and for

my circle of influence I have shared honestly and,

have contributed with advise from my own

past experiences.

Me just like you have had nice and significant

triumphs but had also to wrestle with the

Alligator of failure and short comings.

doing more than just loosing weight I am building

Healing.

DamageSad but we all have something within us that

at some point and time controlled or at least

We can not choose our family but I tell you if someone from your family brings

you down it is time for you to choose just how much time you spend with him/her.

If you have a friend whom you love but is poisoning your efforts it is time for you to

love from a distance., a safe distance.

Many will say “I will help you” “I will support you” “I am here for you” and they will.,

until you actually need them. Then the diarrhea of excuses happens.

Choose the people around you. Your life, dreams and hopes are way too important.

Find and associate with persons who bring value to your life.

Centered Approach.

By not having a centered approach

we can miss out on the opportunity

to find the ONE thing that actually

could be a game changer.

I made it clear that my approach was

and low-fat diet and the reason is

very simple to me: It Works For Me.

This was not about fancy advertisement

or a good-looking person on TV. I tried

many of the other diets and none of them

did it for me. This one did. NOW!! I am NOT

telling you to do the same but, what I am

telling you is that you should look and work on

finding the one that works for YOU.

I have purposely not used diet or product

names because I do not want you to assume

quality or efficiency on any of them. I want

for you to go and try so you can find on your own

the right one. POINTER  It all starts with you.

On Dreams.

Regret for what we could but decided not to do

is a pain that we all have experienced at one

time or another.

Today in the here and now I decide

I have already too much that I regret and this

Tracking / Journaling

my coach has made me take it to the next level (or two).

Being able to access this information has given me

the ability to more easily identify areas where time

or effort is being wasted so that adjustments can be made.

the other side of the coin is that the areas where I am doing

good can then be reinforced to make a bigger impact.

Both Jim Rohn and Darren Hardy have amazing materials

that show the impact that journaling can have in our life

regardless of what goals you are working on.

On his book “The Compound Effect” Darren hardy shares

how he has used tracking / journaling to improve on

relationships, money, weight loss and friendships in general.

Us here are working on improving our health and reducing

our weight so that is what we should concentrate on.

tracking and I am going to attach it to this post for anyone to

download it if interested I just ask that if you find a way to

COMMITMENT.

Working with a coach can be very exciting and frustrating.

I love the results I am getting but let me tell you it can be

a very effective love – hate relationship.

In the end it is all good but since the process is to assess

and improve on “YOU” it can get personal and I notice

that at times I can get defensive. Not because she is wrong

but because this changes imply that I need being changed.

Am I alone here when I think that I am really great?

Am I the only one to think that dear God did a pretty darn

good job when he made “ME”.

Yes facing reality can at times be interesting but that is

why having a coach or support structure behind us is

so good and important.

Facing reality of our shortcomings is a rather big deal

but, it is also the gateway to true and lasting improvement.

Once we identify our “needs change” areas and we incorporate

them to our plans and goals the process starts to move.

Gang we deserve to be and do better, it is within us to create

the results that we want and need.

Regardless of what your dreams and goals are make sure

that you are building a support structure to help and assist

as you make changes and adjustments.

Diet & Gym

Diet is #1We all know that one without the other negates some results.

Because we are all different we must find what works for each

and every one of us.

I personally follow a low carbs, low-fat, low sodium, high protein diet.

That said it does not mean that I do not

eat vegetables. I don’t much care for fruit but vegetables

I do enjoy. I like a fresh salsa with my chicken and meats.

I like mashed cauliflower with most anything.

I like spinach made the Greek way cooked in olive oil

with tomato and onions.

The great thing about my diet is that I can eat larger

quantities while I am dealing with my dislodged

gastric band.

Simple Rules.

4 simplel rulesWhile nothing in weight loss is simple even with Weight Loss Surgery

it does not help when we make things overly complicated.

In trying to explain to my Coach what my system is in selecting

my food items she promptly noticed and shared with me areas

where I might be over complicating my efforts.

Yes we want to have exact portions but a close enough

portion when eating out is good enough and we know based

on our prior experience what is a proper portion.

Exercise or activity is easy enough to track and now with all the

technological possibilities when our phone can as easily count our

steps and calories burned there is no reason not to have a rather

accurate idea of where we are at the end of the day.

Tracking is also possible with a multitude of free apps for both

android and iPhone products.

Since my next big challenge is tracking I am going back to using

the form I had developed and should it be of help to anyone else

I am giving it for free to you at the end of this post.

Please take a look at it and see if you can find a way to improve

on it I am no spread sheet genius so you will not offend me if

you can help me make it a better one.

My Coach keeps telling me that if I do not record it it din’t happen.

My Challenge.

new lap band picAs some of you know I have been dealing with a dislodged

band for quite a bit of time.

I have tried to work around the challenge that this is but I know

that having the ability to eat with out the limiting that the band

provides has been key to my weight re-gain.

Part of my process now is to go back to eating the smaller

portions as the program delineates but it is here where I can feel

the difference that the band makes. A portion that would have made

me feel full with the band properly attached does not have the same

effect without it. I end up feeling hungry and not satisfied wanting

more to eat.

This post is just to advise you that not following the guidelines can

create a situation where you lose all the benefits of the band.

That extra portion or those carbonated beverages are just not

worth it. I know I am living with it.

FOOD. The other side of the coin.

dont dig your graveWeight loss is not just a matter of Dieting any more

than it is just a matter of working out.

A balance of the two makes for faster more noticeable results.

By contrast., nothing will have a more negative effect on

your efforts than a poor diet.

Everybody should eat high quality proteins and nutrients BUT

for those of us with a lap-band or any other type of

Weight Loss Surgery  (WLS) the quality and quantity of the food

we consume is of the utmost importance.

Do not fool yourself there is no way around this for us if we

are truly committed to obtaining results.

Watch what you eat. Follow the feedings program you were given.

consume high quality nutrients and drink plenty of water.

It is quite simple to obtain results and even easier when you are

adding enough activity in any way shape or form.

New Beginings.

As a regular person I know of having had failure and times and moments when

the bed wins in the early morning and the doughnuts with the coffee.

But I also know of the pain and frustration when the bastard bathroom scale laughs

in my face. So guess what… I accept it and try again and then try again.

It is my goal to win and regardless of what happens outside of my head I will

continue to fight this fight.

I know that I am the only one who has ever failed at the battle of the pounds

so for all of the high achievers out there please just take this as comedy material.

NOW…. Should there be anyone else like me out there who is being challenged by

a pound of two I welcome your input and comments.

I am fighting a rather large battle and I have quite a lot against me yet.,

I am here working on more and better.

I m having my weight tracker adjusted so there is a public record and we shall

see where this road takes us.

I have this time enlisted the help of a life coach and I see how some of the

“OTHER” aspects of my life are improving and falling into place

so we shall see how this very important part of my life works out.

She is the nicest, toughest, most caring, knowledgeable, drill Sargent bitch

I have ever encountered in my life. I choose to do this online and through e-mail and

It is working for me. With a weekly evaluation and planning session and two to four

contacts by text or MSM messages through out the week she seems to be ever-present.

As I have always told you: Figure out what works for you and your needs

and go forward with it. Forget what others say and figure out YOU.

To Salad Or Not To Salad.

Good Day Everyone.

Have you ever been confronted by the “Salad Police”?

When people learn of my efforts to lose weight and the path (low carb, low sodium, high protein.) I have chosen I always get the roll of the eyes and the friendly “Really?”  It is funny because when I explain to them that it was this approach that has given me the best and biggest or should I say smallest results; they usually all of a sudden get very interested in learning just a little bit more. It is almost magical because as they hear the numbers they just can’t let go. What are the numbers? 330 #’s to 235 #’s in less than 4 months.  That was my first big success with dieting. Now… Success does not mean wining and  I proved that by going right back and past the 330 #’s to my top weight of  361 #’s.

Anyway back to salads.

I like salads. I like veggies both raw and cooked but I have a problem with salads and lettuce in particular. Because of my lap band it just does not move. I get stuck and it has to come right up. I have tried chewing longer, different dressings, more of this, more of that, less of this, less of that and it still does not work. So I have tried different ways to eat greens and vegetables.

Anyone else likes creamy mashed potatoes? I do. I discovered that steaming cauliflower and then running them trough my supper duper milk shake making machine and adding just a bit of sour cream and pepper makes for a most acceptable substitute.  I have done similar things with kale, spinach, broccoli, celery, and many other veggies and then use any leftovers for sauces or soups and by doing that I increase the amount of veggies I consume. But it is not salads. You know what it is that I miss a lot? my favorite comfort food broccoli spears with thousand island dressing sprinkled with salt and pepper.  Boy do I miss that.

Ok. I took the liberty of adding the cartoon below and while I know and admit that Atkins is not for everyone I know and can tell you that for a hard case like mine has always been it worked and, as I have incorporated it to my lap band regime it stopped the gaining of weight and has helped my slow progress to my goal weight. Please take it as what it is a cartoon you do not have to agree.

Go to the support groups, Take your vitamins.

Really it is easy to do but as Mr. Jim Rohn

would say:”what is easy to do is also easy not to do”

Scale Addiction.

forget the scale itNumbers can have tremendous power.

If we let them.

Numbers should serve the purpose of

inspiring and keeping us focus.

We can not allow a number to dictate how

our day will end or start.  BUT…

We can not allow either our whims and

moods to have a similar effect on us.

Weight loss with or without Weight Loss

Surgery (WLS) is a daily battle, a commitment

to a better, healthier life and as such it

requires planning, commitment and

execution. Plan your meals in advance,

make sure you are drinking the water,

when purchasing groceries keep in mind

your goal and limitations.

If you are past the surgery then you have

received all the training and instructions

to be successful. NOW Go Do It.

We are all in it so reach out if you have

The Meds In Our Days.

Pills

I know very well that I have to take certain meds

every single day. At very specific times.

 I know that I need them.

But What to do when for whatever reason we

are unable to take them. What to do when

the pain hits and you are unable to function.

If you are depressed or dealing with fibro

with out your meds you might as well

just sit and breath as there is not much else

you can do. I KNOW.

There are many reason why we at times are

unable to take our meds as prescribed and

we must avoid that by any means but when it

happens try to have a plan B even if it is just

to howl at the moon in a therapeutic fashion.

or fantasize about inflicting the same pain

on some one who has not kept their promises.

Hope you never go through putting up with pain

because of lack of meds… It Sucks

If you use lyrica or Cymbalta like I do you know

how severe the withdrawals are if you do not

follow the prescribed times.

I guess I am just venting and letting my own

body know that we still have more battles to

fight in the future. All in all pains and all

I am grateful to be alive today.

Reality.

only fully appreciate after we actually know

what our reality is.

We must look deeply into our hopes and dreams

set goals that support those hopes and dreams

plan ways to make those goals a reality so that our

hopes and dreams grow wings and then…

Work our ass off to make it a reality.

It is so much easier to ignore the opinions and

negativity of others when we are Killing It.

Whatever you have committed to go and do it.

Whatever you want or wish for go and make it happen.

Making our dreams a reality is worth getting up earlier.

Gang to be able to KILL IT is oh so worth it.

Stay focused stay successful.

Advantage.

even how we tie our shoes is important.

With that in mind let us not forget to eat

nutrient dense foods and more water.

Walking and appropriate exercising

are also activities that give us an advantage.

It is about more than just weight loss. It is

about a better life.

Next Step!!

6 w'sOK. As I told you all my weight loss program

is working well and, while I have lots of training

and education in cooking and nutrition I have

to admit here that the main reason my success has

been these consistent and sustainable has been by far

the constant presence of my coach.

While our agreement was geared towards health

and weight loss we had to make some changes

to reflect the new scope we were heading towards.

I like to share and even though I have written a lot

I do not fancy myself a writer., even so I have been

published and have continued to work on my writing

specially in the field of cooking.

As my coach has been evaluating my progress she has

as kept track of my time utilization and project planning

that has given her a big picture of what I am up to and

what are some of my plans, ideas and goals.

Here would be a good place for me to tell you all that

I have not been employed since August the 31st 2011.

I call myself an entrepreneur and it has been

through Coaching and Real Estate that I have been

making a living.

My dream and phantom goal has been to dedicate more

time to my writing and it is here where my coach has

provided me with the “External View” and has help me

to find the time and inspiration to go after my goal.

I am at this point not only blogging daily but I am also

writing no less than 600 words per day Monday to Saturday

with a projected new book every month.

And, by the first day of next month I will up it to no less

than 1000 words per day with a projected two (2) books

per month. Very aggressive goals but that is what

happens when you obtain the help and guidance

needed to accomplish clear goals.
