Waking UP.


actually. i just woke up

It seem that as of late I have been asked way too many times:

“What Made You Decide To Change?”

One day, I just decided that no one person or no one situation

would ever have so much power over me.

I decided that those friends who continually tell you I will pray for you

but never offer you a coin when broke or a piece of bread when hungry

have no true and vested interest on us.

That if it had to be it was up to me, therefore I promised my self never to

ask another “Don’t let go of me.”

That I am worth it not because of me but because of the one who created me.

I realized that I wanted and deserved a better, longer, healthier and happy life.

That a failed relationship did not preclude me from finding love again.

That having been overweight did not mean that I was to stay that way.

That loosing my position, and wealth only meant that I had something else coming.

That there would be someone who would take and accept me as I was, and to whom

my struggles and challenges would not be a deal breaker as they made their presence felt and,

carried some of the load and at times all of the load so that I did not have to face the world alone.

Because I had those that did pray but, they did not pray for me…They prayed with me.,

a lot has changed and my life now reflects it.

NO. Prayer in any form is not bad or unwelcome, but I remember what my parents taught

all of us as kids: after we pray on our knees we get up and go and pray with our hands, feet

and backs so we can do our part in making ours and other people’s miracles a reality.

I am thankful., oh so thankful for the many kindness I have received during the last couple of years.

I know that I have a purpose and if I have a day or a hundred years

I will work every day and in some way re-pay all that was given to me.

I want more. I want better.

I want health, wealth and a family

And that is why my prayer is never for things to be given to me,

or for life to be easy, and not even for many friends.

All I ask from GOD is for my loved ones to be healthy and safe,

and for me, Peace of mind.

With that I can and will take care of the rest.

The importance of GOALS.

Zig Ziglar Once said “With Out A Goal You will Miss Every Shot You Take”

We need something to shot for, and have in our minds a clear idea of what it is that we want, and where do we want to end at in our journey.

I promised on my last post that I would make available to anyone who “Asked” my goals and daily activity sheet, but as I thought about it I decided that I would just make it available on the blog so that I could make it easier for people to see and use.

I ask you to please look at it and if it works for you please by all means use it. BUT, please let me know what you think and maybe., some ideas as to how we can make it better so that we can together help others work on their goals.

Those of us that already had our surgery know that we had an idea, a goal, a dream of who and how we wanted to look at the end. I am not different or better than anyone else so I have made use of every tool I could get my hands on. This form is the result of me wanting to keep that idea clear in my mind, but also keep the accountability where it belonged: ON ME. I wanted to keep the dream alive and present.

If you see the guidelines that have been set for us maybe just like me you will say: “they are out of their bleeping minds”. I did. According to the American Dietetic Association I should weigh at the most 178 #’s being that I a male and I am 6 feet 1 inch tall. Yeah Right.

When I got down to 230 #’s I look like I was sick. Everybody was worried that I had contracted some kind of sickness or something. I felt great though. I think that the main reason I look “not good” was that I was not exercising or doing much activity. Now, I have learned and I want to get to and remain between 200 and 230 #’s. As I have increased my activity level I noticed that my face and body look better. I know by looking at my self and not paying attention to what anyone else says or thinks that I am on the right track.

People, please make sure that you have a goal in mind that is YOURS and no one else. Make sure that you are doing this for YOUR own reasons. Make sure that this process is something you are doing because YOU want it, and answer to YOU and only to YOU.

I have mentioned a picture. The picture that made me decide to take extra measures. I realized that I had let go of me, and I needed to fix me. I needed to bring me back.

I was sick and tired all of the time. I was in the worst shape of my life even though someone told me (trying to be funny) that round was a shape. So here it is.

I thank her for allowing me to post this picture. I do not know who should be more embarrassed, if I for allowing myself to get this big. OR her for being seen with me.

Guys we all have different reasons to do what we do so make sure that you have yours, and that they are important enough for you to always keep in mind and make you stay focused.

I will also add the form and hope that it will be of use to you, and that you will please post a message letting me and others know what it is that you think and how you think we can make it better.

This is the last Sunday of November.

Have you written your goals for the next year?

Take it for a test drive. Write your goals and keep them present

all year-long and see if your life does not changes completely.

Make economic goals, Work on them and see if you do not end up better.

Make health goals. See if you don’t end up healthier.

Make weight loss goals. Your scale will thank you. It works.

Tony Robbins on life goals and there you will see the blue print for

goal setting. If you want to go the extra mile and have a month,

get and read the book “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy

and see your life transform, and improve.

but it will take you putting some action for the good to come.

I hope you are all ready for Turkey Day.

Easily the day when we are most likely to over do it with the eating

Self Love.

Why we do what we do? I had to learn that while it was ok to continue to give to others and of my self., I had to find love to and for myself. It is not an egotistical journey but an adventure of discovery and self realization. I celebrate a pound lost or a size reduced. I am happy for an inch and happy for a ounce. I am happy to be doing better. Celebrate you progress. Because I am sure you will agree that not going back is progress in and of it self. Staying at the same weight for a long time is an issue but from one week to the next it just means that you were able to deal with cravings and temptations. Just Do Not Go Backwards. MAGIC DIET PILL !!!!!

What is the most important thing for weight loss?? Diet, Exercise, Activity, Attitude? It is all equally important I have found but, if there is something that I have seen make a difference in many of the people that I have known is the fact that they were committed. There are many experienced and educated persons like me out there that regardless of the knowledge and experience failed at the weight loss game. I trained people on weight loss and therapeutic diets so I knew better and yet I failed consistently. It was the lack of commitment to the weight loss that kept me from realizing my goal. Lap Band.

This is a commitment we made. A change, and opportunity. Went trough the process and then went to surgery all the while spending lots of money ours and others. My question to you is? You Have The Power!

We have a God-given right to choose.

Our decisions impact our life and that of those around us family and friends.

All of the little and seemingly insignificant decisions we make day in and day out

have the cumulative power to change and affect our lives.

There is a book titled the compound effect by Darren Hardy Publisher of Success Magazine.

In it Darren shows us the power both negative and positive that each and every decision

we make, can make a difference on the quality of our life.

The extra glass of wine, the fun size chocolate packet, or the extra serving of ice cream

can add up to significant calories, grams of carbs, grams of fat whatever you want to track.

BUT, just as well taking the extra steps by parking a little farther, drinking an extra glass of water,

walking just a little extra, adding a set to our workout, using mustard instead of mayo, etc.

has an effect. What will it be? The positive or negative?

We have the power to decide, we have the opportunity to change our tomorrows and,

by doing that change our life.

Use your power for good., for good longer living.

On Changes.

It requires change and a bit of desire.

If you had WLS you know you have made the investment

already, so why not use the tool you purchased?

Follow the guidelines, drink the water, measure the food,

take your meds, and make sure you are taking your vitamins.

Not rocket science even though at times it feels like it.

And, if you add activity and exercise you just turbo-charged

the program. so hang on and keep rocking it.

We should also make sure that we are staying within the amounts that have been given to us. Another item we at times neglect is the taking of multivitamins daily. While I personally struggle with an items or two of the list I truly struggle with drinking enough water. Let's not forget that all aspects are important and for the most part one can not fully work without the other so while we want to make sure that we are consuming quality nutrients in the right amounts we shall also keep in mind that exercising and drinking plenty of water is equally as important. Why wait for tomorrow?
For those of us who are on the road to a better US there is no place for tomorrow., not at the price of a better life.
We do not make excuses for others or for ourselves and that makes us at times the target of jokes, slander, abuse, good and bad intentions and it is our job to maintain the higher ground.

Zero tolerance!! For ourselves when we hesitate between the scheduled and the accidental. When we fail to do what is important and instead we allow the urgent to rule.
To fail to follow our diet just because “it is just a little piece”
For not taking our vitamins and medicine as prescribed instead of “at times”

Tomorrow is the biggest thief. The biggest reason why goals, diets, dreams, wishes and desires do not happen as they should.

As a Hispanic I am very familiar with the term “Manana” Manana does not mean tomorrow., it means “Not Now”

So I ask you If not today, if not now,Then When?

How about right now? How does right now sounds to you?

Which Is The Meassure Of Your Success?

So? What is it for YOU?

Who cares what others say or think? Who cares what is important to others. What is important to YOU?

Is it a clothes size? A waist measure? The blinking numbers on your scale?

I do not know since I do not know you personally but keeping track of what is important to us is always a great Idea.

Folks are you familiar with the book “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy? If you are you know how important tracking is,

and if you are not I hope you will take a small piece of advice from me and get you this book. You can get it on audio form or e-book or print form.

Regardless of how you choose to get it you will get information that will help you accomplish any goal you are working on.

A most valuable resource.

Tracking what we eat, our progress, our needed steps, etc., will keep the goal ever-present.

Define what matters to you. Define what it is that you have to do and go for it.

OK. As promised a little bit on food. For those of us that have undergone Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) or those

that are thinking of getting it done here is some insight.

Due to the reduced space for food to go trough on the way to the stomach., the consistency of food must always be taken into consideration

when prepping and when cooking. A small dice will work for most once we get past the initial stage after the surgery.

Make sure you invest in a good quality knife and that it is maintained sharp and always at the ready.

Chewing is the other part of the equation. Make sure that you spend enough time chewing on your food as to avoid getting stuck.

On this I have to add my personal challenge here. IF I allow myself to get too hungry I eat way too fast, and always end up

getting stuck and before long I am throwing up. A most unpleasant experience for those of us that had WLS.

100 % Results Only With 100 % Commitment.

Looking back at many of my posts and many of the blogs that I follow I noticed that we all have set backs. I noticed that we all had plateau patches when we were stuck for periods of time. I noticed also that at times food and the warm bed won over our commitment to work on our weight loss plan. BUT.. I also noticed that when we re-committed to our goals we made amazing progress. This shows that were we to remain 100% committed 100% of the time this weight loss thing would be a done deal. BUT as someone who has failed at times I acknowledge that it is hard., possible but hard. We must have a plan. We must work plan. We need to have goals and they need to be ever present. Changes.

Small Changes

Doing the little things., drinking more water, exercising two to three times a week,

paying attention to what we eat and on and on.

The little things that if we do them make a world of difference.

But., if we don’t then… It is time to make the small changes and kick it into gear.

Little thing by little thing, one step at a time.

Keep the end in mind and the goal ever-present.

How often do we re set our goals and expectations?
Our goals must be clear and concise so that as we work with the end in mind the image is clear and inspiring.
But it must also be flexible so we can adjust as our expectations may at times fall short. Inspiration, frustration, desire, etc., will at time make us over reach., we don’t give up or change our goal but in order to continue we adjust. Maybe we change our workout schedule, maybe we adjust our walk distance, maybe we switch our work out days, etc., we adjust but we do not abandon our goals. We don’t abandon our dreams. We don’t abandon Us.

What Is Progress???

GOALS.
I think that we can all agree how important goals are and how important it is to have an end in mind.
The problem comes when we get so caught in making a goal that we forget about progress.
Yes., we might be intent and committed to a loss of 10 pounds per month but hey 2, 5 or 7 pounds lost IS progress. It is movement in the right direction and we must celebrate because we are wining.
We want the big win. We want the glory of meeting the goal and sometimes we get frustrated when it doesn’t happen. Hey progress is progress and we must acknowledge and celebrate it. AND more important we must use it to keep us on task. progress

It is Friday., Now What?

Gang.. The work does not stop because of the weekend.

Stay focused and continue to do the right things even add something new.

Adding even a little activity every day compounds the calories burned.

Drinking more water helps with the expulsion of impurities.

Starting a new routine would get you out of a rut.

Let’s not lower our guard even for a moment as we know that

we are fighting an enemy that never stops.

About Choices.

What We Want To Be.

Weight loss is so much more than the way we look., it is also the way we feel and the way that we are perceived not just by others but by us as well.
We each have an idea an image of who we are and what we look like under the perfect circumstances but, we know that the perfect circumstances are seldom present.
Does that means that we settle or that we give up? No! it means that we continue to work at it and maintain the goal and the dream alive. We do this with our daily work and the image ever-present in our minds and hearts.
We fight with the tools and weapons that we each have at our disposal. We use the fork at the table and our legs in our walks. Exercise and diet. Patience and understanding. We use the knowledge that others have and so freely give to us by reading and acting on what other bloggers share.
I am so grateful to all of you that read what I write and the blogs that I follow. It reminds me that I am not alone and that in the end and in different ways we are not alone. We are all in this together.
I wish we could track the pounds that we are all loosing. Pound by pound we are making an ever-increasing dent on the mountain of pounds in front of us.
I thank you and wish all the success that our hard work deserves.

We know that we need to work on our goals then plan our diet and determine our exercise needs. Then We must go and work our plan.
Diet alone even for us with the lap band will never be enough. Exercise will make the biggest difference. Do not struggle with the term “Exercise” call it activity and start adding activity to your daily life. The more activity the bigger the impact on your physical appearance and energy.

So for those of us with out the super power lets start by planning and adding some activity.

The Price Of Dreams.

The Price Of Dreams.

Weight loss like so many other things in life is a process., a journey.
We pay day by day, meal by meal one decision at a time for the opportunity, the chance to reach our goal, our destination.
This journey is in many ways like a trip across country. We must plan and evaluate and adjust and then evaluate again and adjust even further.
We must be prepared for the unexpected. Little things like the people who don’t understand why we can’t eat this or drink that. Prepare for our bad habits trying to derail us. Prepare to celebrate the little and big triumphs. Pack enough for moments when all there is as far as the eye can see is temptation in the shape of sugar, fat, carbs, trash.
Make sure that when you embark on this journey you do it with a solid goal, a destination in mind and that you purchase a one way ticket to the new you. A one way ticket to the healthier, happier and more accomplished you., and when you get there never forget the journey so that you don’t have to take the trip again.

Enjoying The Process.

keep cookingI had a visit with my Coach.

She pissed me off by being right once again.

She reminded me of the part I took in re-gaining almost

a hundred pounds yes that is 100 pounds.

She tells me “you did not just trip and fell a top 100 pounds worth

of fat and food., it was an active choice of putting in your mouth.,

more food than you should have.”

“It was not something that happened in a day or two so stick to

the program day in and day out and you will see the progress”

She is right and I know it I am just not the most patient of guys

and I hate being told what to do (I am sure I am the only one.).

But the fact remains that with her help I have already

lost several pounds and did it faster.

She is helping me reconnect with my passion for cooking and

using better techniques and better ingredients that will in the

long run help me maintain my weight loss.

Do you have it?

No one said it would be easy. No one said we would be understood. No one said that the pain in our joints and our pride would last just for a little bit but, I can tell you and even guarantee that if you go just a little bit more every time you will see the results and harvest from your efforts.

It is worth it. Not for anyone else but for us and the promise of a better, healthier, longer, triumphant future.

Tracking / Journaling

my coach has made me take it to the next level (or two).

Being able to access this information has given me

the ability to more easily identify areas where time

or effort is being wasted so that adjustments can be made.

the other side of the coin is that the areas where I am doing

good can then be reinforced to make a bigger impact.

Both Jim Rohn and Darren Hardy have amazing materials

that show the impact that journaling can have in our life

regardless of what goals you are working on.

On his book “The Compound Effect” Darren hardy shares

how he has used tracking / journaling to improve on

relationships, money, weight loss and friendships in general.

Us here are working on improving our health and reducing

our weight so that is what we should concentrate on.

In the past I have made available a form I use for all my

tracking and I am going to attach it to this post for anyone to

download it if interested I just ask that if you find a way to

50% commitment“How Bad Do You Wan It, How Far Are You Willing To Go?”

Working with a coach can be very exciting and frustrating.

I love the results I am getting but let me tell you it can be

a very effective love – hate relationship.

In the end it is all good but since the process is to assess

and improve on “YOU” it can get personal and I notice

that at times I can get defensive. Not because she is wrong

but because this changes imply that I need being changed.

Am I alone here when I think that I am really great?

Am I the only one to think that dear God did a pretty darn

good job when he made “ME”.

Yes facing reality can at times be interesting but that is

why having a coach or support structure behind us is

so good and important.

Facing reality of our shortcomings is a rather big deal

but, it is also the gateway to true and lasting improvement.

Once we identify our “needs change” areas and we incorporate

them to our plans and goals the process starts to move.

Gang we deserve to be and do better, it is within us to create

the results that we want and need.

Regardless of what your dreams and goals are make sure

that you are building a support structure to help and assist

as you make changes and adjustments.

Diet & Gym

Diet is #1We all know that one without the other negates some results.

Because we are all different we must find what works for each

and every one of us.

I personally follow a low carbs, low-fat, low sodium, high protein diet.

That said it does not mean that I do not

eat vegetables. I don’t much care for fruit but vegetables

I do enjoy. I like a fresh salsa with my chicken and meats.

I like mashed cauliflower with most anything.

I like spinach made the Greek way cooked in olive oil

with tomato and onions.

The great thing about my diet is that I can eat larger

quantities while I am dealing with my dislodged

gastric band.

Will You, Will I Do What Is Needed?

We visit again the fact that we, for the most part know what needs doing but are challenged by the actual doing. We know that WLS is a good tool but like any other tool it must be used to exploit and enjoy the results of it. So… Will we do it? Will we drink the necessary water, will we measure our portions, will we exercise. will we follow the program given to us?

We have the tool and the knowledge now we need the clarity of our goals and dreams and, we have those too. SO…………. Let’s go do it.

Not easy just very doable.
