Goals The Pathway For a Better Tomorrow.

Goals. When do you work on your yearly goals? There is no wrong answer for this UNLESS you don't write your yearly goals. Everyone has a different way or process to develop and evaluate your plans and goals. I now am trying a new approach and it is to have my goals for the next year ready by the 15th of November well before the busy days of the holidays and end of year. Whatever your system is make sure you are making realistic, measurable goals for the year of 2015. All the best now and always to you all. Jose G. Osuna www.lapbandformen.com

PERSPECTIVE

PERSPECTIVE

“A picture is worth a thousand words” Or we could say it is worth a hundred pounds.
This picture was sent to me by the administrator of the blog iambetterthanthis.com and it just spoke to me.
At times it helps to see our goals. To feel our vision. This little tool which I will start using today does just that. It is simple, visible, present and, a kick in the gut when we are not doing what we said we were going to do.

Those of us who have gone trough the procedure of having WLS know that we put our life on the table when we went to surgery. Spend lots of money going trough the process and committed to a change in our lives. Folks. It is not the band that fails as I was just reminded while reading another fellow blogger’s posts. (madbandedhousewife.wordpress.com) It is us who can fail if we do not keep to the plan. Hell no it is not easy! But it is so worth it, our life a better life is worth it.

Anyway. This pic came from Pinterest and I hope it is a tool that is useful to you. I know it will be for me.

As always I wish you all the success that you rightfully deserve.

LOVING AND SUPPORTING OURSELVES

LOVING AND SUPPORTING OURSELVES

The weight loss race is a lonely one.
In the end it is just me, my self and I making the decisions of what and how much to eat.
It is just me, my self and I making sure the goal is ever-present. Me, myself and I arguing over are we or are we not going for our walk today, me, myself and I fighting over are we working out or not.
It sounds as if this was all we ever thought of but it is more what we do all day long that keeps reminding us of the goal. When we have to walk for any distance and we are winded. When we try to play with our kids and we lack the strength or stamina. When our work requires us to fly places and we face the 1 inch by 1 inch seat in the plane. When we look at the assortment of pills we have to take every day. It is all of those things that keep our goal constantly present in our days.
It is a desire and the hope for a better tomorrow that motivates us.
It is that form of self-love that gives us the strength to try again and again.
Sometimes the people around us do not see the why and lovingly share their thoughts and concerns and we just want to lovingly put their heads under water for just a couple of days.
Yes it was a joke but see how you smiled? That is the approach we need to take to the negative comments. The inconsiderate looks and stares. Laugh it off and keep on keepin’ on.
Keep winning the little battles. The battles with the fork, the battles with the bed in the early morning, the screaming matches with the bathroom scale, and the cold war with the mirror.
Keep winning the little battles and eventually you will reach your goal and win the war.
Let’s love ourselves more. Let’s support ourselves more. Let’s believe in us more.

Here It Is To Us!!

Here It Is To Us!!

The little things that make a difference in us.
The small decisions that change us inside.
The walking on the less beaten path.

We made a decision when we went for WLS and a commitment.

We knew that many things would be off-limits. That most of our old favorites would not fill our plates any longer. That even our drinking habits would be affected and we decided that yes we would do it.

I remember asking: Where do I sign up for this miracle. And I did.

My first down day I went for my all time favorite “Steamed Rice with Butter and salt”., God that first bite was a taste of heaven and, as I felt my troubles dissipate I also noticed that I could not breathe. My God I thought I was dying.

I missed my beer. I love beer and I am a Mexican so I do not say I love things ever but I did. I loved beer. Have you had a belly ache from drinking a carbonated beverage? It sucks. Bad.

So many little and not so little things.

Well here we are. We are all part of the club or thinking about getting our membership scars. If you have it good for you., if you are thinking about getting it I encourage you to do it if you have asked enough questions and talked to enough people. If not please inform yourself.

Guys we are the proud owners of an amazing tool. Let’s use it.

Let’s remember that we do not drink while eating.
That we chew twice as much as others.
That we must take our vitamins.
That we need to drink our water.
That it is not a miracle and we DO need to exercise.
That those of us that are still on meds must take them.
That the support group that should be part of the program is for us to use.
That it is not only what the scale tells us but how our body feels.
That our dream is ours and what the haters do or say about us is not our problem.

Lets let our actions do the talking. Go out there an kick some gut.

People. In the here and now., we are here now.

Please let’s make the best of things.

No More “Can’t”

Re-evaluate your goals and remember

that your goals must not only inspire you but

push you to grow.

IT IS OK TO FEEL PROUD!

IT IS OK TO FEEL PROUD!

Loosing weight is a daily battle. Those of us on the journey or should I say the trenches know it.
For those that have not done it yet just try denying yourself you regular poison be it coffee, a cigarette, ice cream, or a chocolate bar and do it consistently for any period of time longer than a week and you will get a taste, a little glimpse at what true, real dieting is all about.

Because it is so hard. Because it takes commitment and a strong desire to not only look but feel better YES! you should feel proud of your accomplishments of any size. I will dance over half a pound loss. I will call every one I know every time I can say I lost another ten pounds.

And the day that I get to my goals the whole world will know it. I will be writing posts on blogs that I have never even been to. I will start doing searches in alphabetical order and screaming to the top of my key-board I DID IT!!!

For now… We keep on keeping on one bite at a time one meal at a time one day at a time.

And., do not forget to celebrate any and all little and big accomplishments.

DIETING WHILE STRESSED

DIETING WHILE STRESSED

This little image came to me as I was net-surfing trying to clear my mind.
Me just like you and everyone else around us have to at times, deal with stress.
I do not know about you but my stress comes from people. People we love and care for and also people who love and care for us. I am not even going to worry about the haters as I do as the good book told me and just ignore them. What good book you say? Well Dilbert of course.
The Bible tells me to love them but haters don’t play by those rules.
Anyway.
For the past few weeks I have been confronted with all kinds of BS from within and without my tribe and, I have noticed the impact it has had on my weight loss efforts.
I have been distracted and not paying attention to what I eat and drink and I noticed today as I got on the scale at the center for lost souls where I reside and the scale told me something that felt like: “Hey.,.,., Stop It!!” Hence I am here re-reading my blogs trying to re-gain my marbles and re-set my course.
I hate it when I allow the world to kick me in the chin. And hey it can only happen if we allow it. Our journey is too important to allow the world to take over. Our lives are too important.
So my question to you all out there is: When things are on the pot how do you deal with issues related to people? to money? to family? to work? to the impossibilities of life?
We are unique as individuals and our approach to things is so different. Please share what your approach is and help me and anyone else who if they have a pulse will eventually encounter one or more of this challenges.

Changes And Challenges!

It is not just to know what to do as it is to actually DO. It is not the lack of dreams but the lack of action that keeps most of us stuck. Me just like so many others at my 48 years of age have found that it is indeed REGRETS what hurts most. It is the knowledge and understanding that what I wanted was right there for the taking and I did not take the adequate actions. I do not want anymore of those regrets. I do not want to look back anymore and continue to find holes and more holes on my dreams. If it is weight I want to work at it. If it is economical I want to try and conquer it. I have a long way to go on many areas of my life and I am step by step pushing forward. I am not different of better than anyone else I just am at a point where I have literally run out of excuses and have had an explosion of new dreams and new goals. I have not had anything published in years and had it not been for this challenging times I would probably not had published anything. I have the first of my works at amazon and more in the pipe-line and I have to say.... "Better published than perfect" I heard that quote in Entrepreneur On Fire and it just kicked my gut. I do not know what it is that anyone else needs but you must find what it is that is keeping you stuck. Find it and destroy it. All the best wishes to you all and keep dreaming but make sure you wake up every day and work on fulfilling your dreams and hopes. Jose G. Osuna www.lapbandformen.com

Simple Rules.

Weight loss is hard but it does not need to be complicated. I found this 4 rules and as I read I thought "What a simple base to start from". There are many complications and challenges let's try to keep it as simple as possible. Please do notice that I did not say it was easy but I did say it can be simplified. I hope this helps you in your journey. Ok Gang as always all the best to you all. Jose G. Osuna www.lapbandformen.com

THOUGHTS AND DIETING.

THOUGHTS AND DIETING.

Few things have as strong an impact on what we are as our thoughts.
Few things affect our thoughts as much as falling for all of the notions, ideas and opinions of the people around us. The noise that the television, magazines, movies and commercials make are at times too heavy to ignore. And there we go down the path and trying to comply with their “image” and their notions of what is right and what is wrong. What is an acceptable appearance and what is not.
The purpose of looking internally for answers is to find the true image of us., the one we want and have created for ourselves. The one that puts health before appearance. The one that puts acceptance before compliance. The true “ME”. Once that image is clear we are on our way., we start making the progress, once we know it the drinking of the water and the taking of our meds and the adding of exercise becomes not easy but a regular part of our routines.
Exercise, Drink Water, Measure Your Portions, Remain Active, Be Positive, Take Your Meds, Sleep Enough., all of this are and should be part of our day-to-day life.

Keep on Keeping ON and go get all the success you deserve.

Mediocre Not.

I REFUSE TO FAIL!!

I REFUSE TO FAIL!!

Have you heard this one: “Why do you put yourself through all of that” or “You can have a taste of it can’t you” or my favorite “Surely this is ok Riiiiiight?”

Only we know what is good and what is not. What works and what doesn’t. What we can deal with and what we can not deal with.

I know that if I taste warm fresh sour dough bread I will try to eat the whole loaf so I don’t.

I know that a pint of butter pecan ice cream is nothing for me and actually a quart would not even be a challenge. So I don’t go there.

Shrimp and grits., something I never thought I would try leave alone like is something that I can not have enough of. Well guess what I don’t even look at it because I know what would happen.

As I have said before even with my lap band I still have a healthy appetite so I rely heavily on my personal experience to know what to avoid. And there is the key word “Personal” what we know about ourselves that not even those close to us know. Like an alcoholic saying no to a drink we must say no to carbs and to fats and to sweets and to soda and to bread but by saying NO we are saying YES to living, and living a better quality of life.
A lap band just like a diet and yes just like exercise are just tools at our disposal and we need to use them in order for them to do any good.

Why did we put ourselves trough the process of getting the band? Why did we spend all of that money ours or of the insurance company? What did we expect to accomplish? what was the goal?

Sometimes we must re-connect with our self and bring to the present those thoughts and desires we had. That image we created in our mind of our selves.

Re- Commit! Dream again! Go for it! Know that you are worth it and dream big., dream so big that you can not help but get small.

All the success in the world for you all.

Nothing Fails Like Success

dscn1553

This Is A Re-Introduction. I just want to share of the why and how of this blog.

As I had mention before. I tried so many diets and yes I also mentioned that all of them work if even for a while.

Some are strange., some are crazy and some are just ridiculous. And yet they work. For A While.

Atkins did work for me and it is the one I had the biggest success with. I also mentioned that I had been professionally trained on food, meals and therapeutic diets. I am what in health care is known as a Certified Dietary manager. All of that to say that I should have known better. BUT knowing and doing are two very different things all together.

Guys I should be ashamed of my self. I knew  better and yet there I was at 360+ pounds. Not healthy, in constant pain, no stamina and that headache. That headache that would just not let go.

When I drop the weight with the Atkins Diet I felt great. My cholesterol drop dramatically, my labs had great numbers that I never had before all was great right????  Then why did I get back to my horrible weight? Why did I go back to the unhealthy eating habits? Because I lost focus! I keep telling myself I lost it so easily that all I have to do is do it again and in a couple of months I can be in great shape again.

I didn’t. I did so great and then I messed things up again. I messed up my life and physical well-being again. I knew but I did not do. Sounds familiar?

All that knowledge and experience for not.

I got sick as I have said. I spend all that time on the hospital. Then the thought hit me.    We were in the process of developing all of the support systems for the Bariatric service that the hospital was a bout to push into overdrive and I was doing it all. So why not explore this option.

So I did what any sensible, moderately smart man would do. I went to the Director of the department of Bariatrics and asked for guidance and help. I was sure that she would not have any issues with helping the guy that was developing the follow-up to the surgeries that her department was scheduling and planning. RIGHT????

Wrong!!!! Oh I forgot to mention that I was dating her.

Her response went something like this:  What? Why? No, No, You just have to ask someone else. You see she was smart. Should anything not work as I wanted it well….. I knew where she slept.

Well finally after a lot of negotiating (read begging) she started giving me the whole enchilada and I realized that it was going to be a lot more work than I had originally expected. I learned that I had to go trough all of this studies, I had to do all of this tests, I had to be accepted by the surgeon, I had to negotiate with the Gestapo (read insurance company). I had to go and visit with the psych doctor from hell. And then I had to go trough all of this education and even more evaluation. Not an easy or inexpensive proposition.  Guys In the end as I had a chance to see the bills coming after my surgery it added up to well over 25 thousand dollars and when all was said and done it was more like 30 thousand dollars.

So what did I do. Well I had my surgery and about 3 to 6 months later I was at my then goal of  235 pounds. I Had Done It.

Great story right? Wrong again. Remember “nothing fails like success”. What did I do?? I lost focus yet again. I had gone and put my life in the line with a serious surgery. Yes they tell you that you can die while on surgery and working at a hospital I had the misfortune of knowing personally of a great lady friend of mine who died as a result of this procedure. Most sad. Guys. I had my surgery, spend a small fortune on it, made a commitment and screwed it all again. Before I realize it I am back to 285 – 290 pounds.

Just how stupid can someone be. Just how dumb can I be.

Folks and here is where I found myself. This blog is the result of me finding myself back to almost square one.

As of now I have lost 11 pounds. I feel proud of this humble lost because I have changed some of the things I did in the past and I will be sharing those as we go on with this journey.

I thank you for following this and I hope this can be of help to someone out there. Please if you know of any guy thinking of going trough the procedure please, please give them the information about this blog as I promise to share all the good ugly and fattening.

Until the next time very soon.

Band Slippage.

new lap band picOK. Reality time Gang.

Slippage happens. It has happen to me.

Actually I have been dealing

with this for months now.

I was lucky in that my band slippage did not affect my ability to

drink liquids or consume food.

It slipped up and it is now riding a top my stomach.

I tried to get information and help from my regular source but

this time it did not work. Insurance companies if you have one

are continually making it more and more difficult for us

to get or correct issues with a lap band.

I was summarily dismissed with a comment of

most surgeons are now converting them to

gastric bypass. So Back to square one.

I did something that I strongly urge everyone not to do on your own..

I made my liquid go away. No more details.

I do not want to give anyone any ideas and then I am to blame.

After my fluid/liquid/stuffing went away I was able to eat

with very little restriction and I killed all of my progress.

As of now being unable to correct/fix/change my situation

with my Realize® band

I have gone back to the diet that worked best for me.

Low Carb, Low Fat, Low Sodium.

With this I have noticed that the scale has begun to

move in my favor.

Gang., stuff happens and we must

do the best we can with what we have.

Let me tell you my acute back pain is an inspiration.

My low stamina is an inspiration.

I want a better life so here we go again.

I will continue to look for a solution to my problem but

thus far it seem the only one is going to Mexico

and having a corrective surgery done there. I will keep you posted.

Please understand that I am not suggesting or in any way saying

that you should do as I am or will do. This is me and this is my

options and choices you use yours when it comes to this.

In the mean time Let’s keep the enthusiasm up

and keep fighting the good fight.

Why We Are The Way We Are.

Ignorance is bliss, it has been said. But I have found by my own experience, and that of others I have socialized with, that many a time that is not always the case.

Take me for example. I have been in the food and clinical arena for well over 20 years, and I found myself making mistakes that I should absolutely be ashamed to have made.

I have spend countless hours getting trained on nutrition, went to college to obtain education on clinical nutrition, and on top of it all I have been trained by some amazing chefs, and cooks with years and years of training and experience, not only on cooking, but on clinical nutrition and yet there I was well over 350 pounds. In pain, unhealthy, tired, with chronic back and leg pain and an ever-present headache. I didn’t know it at the time but my blood pressure was absolutely out of whack. I was suffering from sleep apnea and my cholesterol was well over 300.

It happened that on one occasion I was just overtaken by my headache. I just noticed that I called it “My” headache. It had become such a daily part of my days that I treated it like a pet. Anyway. I was just overcome with the headache and finally decided to have someone check my blood pressure. Being at a Hospital, I found the nearest group of nurses that just happen to be in the Wound Care Center just down the stairs from my cafeteria. My numbers were horrible and the ladies there suggested I go immediately to the Emergency Room. I took my leave promising them that I would but instead I went back to work.

My blood pressure was so out of norm that a couple of hours later they came to my work area to inquire about my condition. They found me working and I had to admit that my headache was worse, and I had not gone to the ER. They finally pushed hard enough that I had to agree and go and have myself checked.

That was the beginning of a week and a half of treatment and studies. Several Doctors and many nurses and finally a cardiologist working together were able to bring my blood pressure to somewhat acceptable levels. I spent a day and a half in the ER, three days in intensive  care, and almost a week in the telemetry wing of the hospital as my body was just not cooperating.

This should have been enough for any sensible, moderately smart individual to understand that some things needed to change. I wish I could now tell you that after all of this and being placed on several medications for blood pressure, high cholesterol, water retention, etc. I fell in love with salads and changed my evil ways but I did not. I did however started taking my meds (big change) and using my c-pap machine to sleep.

I tried to lose the weight. I tried to reduce the fat and salt I consumed. But in all honesty this scare was not what made me truly start looking at options. It was a photo.

The person I was in a relationship with at the time was this beautiful red-haired girl I have been with for some time. She had come to a function we had at the hospital where we both worked and had a picture taken of us. In the picture she was holding me or at least trying to hold and hug me. There was just too much of me. She couldn’t reach around me. I was totally disgusted with what I was looking at. It was a slap in the face and a kick in the gut. A wave of emotions all of them negative overtook me.

fat book pic

Why We Do What We Do.

fat book picWell. I was not doing what I was supposed to do for my health. I was not doing what I was supposed to do for my family. I was not doing what I was supposed to do for my self. But Looking at a picture,  this picture woke up in me the fire of disgust. Alerted me to a reality that I had been ignoring behind bigger and bigger clothes. I was buying 48 inch waist pants. Size XXX Polo shirts so that I did not have to tuck them in.

And I started looking at options. Dieting. Well. I did. And I have to tell you all that in reality all of the diets work. All of them.          For a while.

I tried them all and they took some of the weight off but were unsustainable for me for any long period of time. My biggest success came while doing the Atkins Diet. Lost quite a bit of weight. Luckily for me I am not a big fan of sweets. But let me tell you something I had to change the hours I went grocery shopping. I could not go into a Fry’s Market place, Safeway or Wal-Mart  from the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 PM. Why? Because that is when they are bringing all of their French bread and baguette out to the sales floor. I could never walk away from freshly baked bread. Bread smell all over the store and I could grab a loaf and a bucket of margarine and eat the whole thing while doing my shopping. Yes., Sad but true.

Time for some perspective here. I realized that to live the kind of life I wanted to live changes were on the horizon and diet and exercise were not working. It was time for radical and extreme solutions.

And that is how I started looking at the lap band and eventually going through the procedure and getting a Relianze® Band.

FOOD AND OUR STATE OF MIND.

FOOD AND OUR STATE OF MIND.

For those of us on the path to weight loss food is at times a challenge.
I can see that some of you smiled at that comment. The reality is that food is a big hairy deal most of the time. We are bombarded with messages of food all of the time. Car commercials that feature food. Shoe commercials that have food. Hey even one of my favorite car shows now has a restaurant attached to it.

It is in the end our responsibility to make the good choices. Me… Well I do a low-fat, low sodium and high protein diet and it works for me. Part of what we do is figuring out what works for us and once we find it work it. At times we will need to tweak it in order to push it into high gear.

At times and following the recommendations from my surgeon I go on a liquid diet for a week and that really works.

Anyway. Today I had a nice crab salad and I wanted to share this very simple recipe.

I used:
8 Oz package of shredded crab meat.
2 table spoons of finely diced onion
1/3 tea spoon of dill weed
4 table spoons of low fat mayo. (some may prefer miracle whip) (go for it)
Salt and pepper to taste.

Just mix all the ingredients and enjoy. I eat it with pork-rinds

This same recipe can be adapted to ham, chicken, tuna or your favorite protein source. I tried it with tofu and it was not good. But, I made it with ranch dressing instead of the mayo and it was good.

I hope you try it and enjoy it.

Hey if you have a better or different recipe please share it.

One day you went to bed being the same, regular you only to wake up the next morning with a burning desire to change you and the world in the process.

We do not decide to have Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) from one day to the other.
We do not become unhappy with our health, appearance, attitude, etc., from one day to the other.

Something is a catalyst. Something is a transforming force. What was that in you?

For me it was a picture. A picture of me with the lady I was in a relationship with at that time in my life. A relationship I thought was going to be my last and forever but… ANYWAY.

In this picture she is trying to hug me and there is just too much of me and too little of her and it is just a nightmare of a picture that haunted me for days and days.

That was the catalyst for me but after a time I needed more. In looking for the inspiration I found that my needs were many and the hunger for not just inspiration but also knowledge was big.

As we share our triumphs and challenges I want to share with you also some of the great materials that have helped and inspired me trough out this years.

So from now on I will try to add a little bit more information at the end of my blogs. A little about our challenges with eating and textures of foods to some of the books and materials that have been game changers for me. If they interest you great., If they don’t just move on and choose and take what you need, want and serve’s you

Please visit kit.com/lapbandformen for some of the materials I talk about.

Keep focus, Keep the goal ever present.

3 Choices.

3 choicesIt is a fact that we always want to “give it all we got”

But it is also a known fact that at times we DON’T.

It is my experience on this occasions that if  I recognize

the event and immediately take measures to correct

the situation/environment/cause then the damage is limited.

We will have moments when the dessert table wins, when the

extra serving is just too good to pass, when we have one or two

too many drinks and for the most part it is ok in as long as

we recognize the moment and work on minimizing the impact

and be better prepared for the next time.

Gang. We live and we learn and part of the learning is

that we commit again, every time to give it our all.

Let’s continue to fight for a better tomorrow.

On Surgeons.

LET'S TALK SURGEON'S!! There are folks out there looking for information and help in order to make an informed decision. For those of us that already have had WLS we can provide some info and guidance that might make the process for those that are in the beginning stages a bit easier., no we are not implying that WLS is the one and only solution but for us it was so lets help so others can decide if it is or not what they need. Please when asked about your surgeon give them an honest answer. give them facts so they can make their own choices. I was asked why I went with Doctor Hilario Juarez in Phoenix, AZ and my answer was very clear and simple. "This guy has more experience than all of the other surgeons that I was considering combined. YES!! that is a whole lot of experience and knowledge. Had I been looking for a nice personality I would have never chosen Dr. Juarez as he has the personality of a sheet of Dry Wall. BUT I must tell you I was looking for experience and knowledge and he had tons more than most anyone I have ever read off anywhere. Folks I was in at around 10 am and by 2 pm I was at the Mexican Market in Phoenix buying soup to take home with me. No.. This is not a typical experience but Dr. Juarez kicks ass and that was my experience. Share folks. Help others make the right decision for them. Be open. Be Honest

Fat Funeral.

I use my imagination a lot to keep me motivated. For some reason the torturing of fat continues to be a recurrent thought. I keep it light and fun so I might have something to laugh about when my legs cramp or when my lower back hurts. I think of those pains as fat trying to escape from being burned and the laughter and yes the fun those thoughts create gives me the fuel that I need to complete my walk or my workout. SO What fun practices do you use to keep you going? Please share. Jose G. Osuna www.lapbandformen.com

No Exceptions is the key to results.

The expression

The expression “No Exceptions” came to me when I read this picture that was forwarded to me by a fellow blogger.
It is the taking ownership of our life and deciding what it is that we want to keep and what it is that we want to get rid of that truly makes a difference.
Avoiding the extra servings, And avoiding the opportunities to fail on our goals. We begin the process of failure when we accept excuses as reasons. Own It. Own your goals and they will give you the life that you dream of.
This is our life not a dress rehearsal. Lets make it count.
Hey gang! All the best to you all as always.

SUCCESS STARTS WITH A VISION!!

SUCCESS STARTS WITH A VISION!!

We have talked about goals and vision before but I want to once again touch on the importance of starting with the end in mind as Steven Covey told us so many times.

What is it that we want? What is it that we are looking for?
What is that image or picture of ourselves that we have in our mind?

If we can not conjure in a moment what it is that we are working for the chances of us reaching it will be improbable, unlikely.

Mr. Eric Thomas tells a tale of someone who wants to be successful and he trough the tale makes it clear that in order to get there he must want it more badly than wanting to breath while under water.

That is wanting it pretty darn bad.

Clarity of purpose gives us the certainty needed to accomplish a well defined goal. But.. In order to have a clear and well defined goal we must first have a vision.

My vision is at this point a cholesterol level of less than 100. A blood pressure that can not be used to inflate small balls. A weight range of 190 to 210 pounds. And the image is my size of pants of when I was a single man 32 x 30. Not perfect but perfect for me.

That is what I use as my vision. That and a new pair of pants that hang on the door for me.

I will wear them for my birthday next year. I will wear them when I go to a show and dinner in Vegas. That I know.

Find your vision. Keep it ever present and do not let go of it.

All the success to you always.

20141021_074906_androidRegardless of what others think do and say

What matters is what WE think, do and say.

To Salad Or Not To Salad.

Good Day Everyone.

Have you ever been confronted by the “Salad Police”?

When people learn of my efforts to lose weight and the path (low carb, low sodium, high protein.) I have chosen I always get the roll of the eyes and the friendly “Really?”  It is funny because when I explain to them that it was this approach that has given me the best and biggest or should I say smallest results; they usually all of a sudden get very interested in learning just a little bit more. It is almost magical because as they hear the numbers they just can’t let go. What are the numbers? 330 #’s to 235 #’s in less than 4 months.  That was my first big success with dieting. Now… Success does not mean wining and  I proved that by going right back and past the 330 #’s to my top weight of  361 #’s.

Anyway back to salads.

I like salads. I like veggies both raw and cooked but I have a problem with salads and lettuce in particular. Because of my lap band it just does not move. I get stuck and it has to come right up. I have tried chewing longer, different dressings, more of this, more of that, less of this, less of that and it still does not work. So I have tried different ways to eat greens and vegetables.

Anyone else likes creamy mashed potatoes? I do. I discovered that steaming cauliflower and then running them trough my supper duper milk shake making machine and adding just a bit of sour cream and pepper makes for a most acceptable substitute.  I have done similar things with kale, spinach, broccoli, celery, and many other veggies and then use any leftovers for sauces or soups and by doing that I increase the amount of veggies I consume. But it is not salads. You know what it is that I miss a lot? my favorite comfort food broccoli spears with thousand island dressing sprinkled with salt and pepper.  Boy do I miss that.

Ok. I took the liberty of adding the cartoon below and while I know and admit that Atkins is not for everyone I know and can tell you that for a hard case like mine has always been it worked and, as I have incorporated it to my lap band regime it stopped the gaining of weight and has helped my slow progress to my goal weight. Please take it as what it is a cartoon you do not have to agree.

Till the next time.

All of the best for all of you.

Zero Calorie Food.

zero callWe are entering to the highest calorie consumption part of the year.

Every single decision we make matters event he little ones and having a plan always helps.

This list is by no means all-inclusive but it is a great place to start.

Keep this items in mind as you go trough the land fill of temptations that will for sure pop up.

This is a good time to go back to basics like: Drink plenty of water, have six small meals,

if you have the lap band increase your protein consumption, have healthy snacks available

at home, work, the car, park away from the entrance, take the stairs, etc,.

It is a daily battle so do not lose focus.

All the best to you all.

And Then They Asked HOW??

at firstIsn’t if funny how the tone goes from one extreme to the other as soon as

the changes begin to show?

My biggest one was with my low carb diet., being of Hispanic descent

we consume lots of starch loaded foods.

But going from 361+ pounds to about 225 pounds gets people’s attentions.

By the way I am not bragging as if you have been following you know that I regained it and

then proceeded to add a few more pounds on top.

So lets take from this post that 1.- People will not always understand. 2.- The plan works.

3.- If we do not pay attention we can always go back.

And 4.- People will be inspired by our actions. Try and be inspiring. Reach out and help someone, Anyone.

keep up the great work guys.

The Meds In Our Days.

Pills

I know very well that I have to take certain meds

every single day. At very specific times.

I know that I need them.

But What to do when for whatever reason we

are unable to take them. What to do when

the pain hits and you are unable to function.

If you are depressed or dealing with fibro

with out your meds you might as well

just sit and breath as there is not much else

you can do. I KNOW.

There are many reason why we at times are

unable to take our meds as prescribed and

we must avoid that by any means but when it

happens try to have a plan B even if it is just

to howl at the moon in a therapeutic fashion.

or fantasize about inflicting the same pain

on some one who has not kept their promises.

Hope you never go through putting up with pain

because of lack of meds… It Sucks

If you use lyrica or Cymbalta like I do you know

how severe the withdrawals are if you do not

follow the prescribed times.

I guess I am just venting and letting my own

body know that we still have more battles to

fight in the future. All in all pains and all

I am grateful to be alive today.

I wish you all a great one today and always.

easy no. worth it yes

A question well worthy of an honest answer.

In reality anything that help us live a better more

fulfilling life will always be worth it.

The dieting, excersise, walking and all kinds of physical

benefit. The increase of well being hormones. The changes

The Little Motivators.

I like it!!

Sometimes it feels like this is the only ting that would make me

work out. So I think of my former Mother In Law.

She used to say….. Just kidding., she would terrorize a T-Rex

easily every day and twice on Sunday.

I would rather go run than stay home where I would have

been a sitting duck for her to pluck.

Hell. I just ruined my beauty sleep by thinking of the T-Rex.

I do not know what your motivator is but I sure do hope YOU know.

Now use  it and go work out.

The Fight.

ammy fibroWhen we talk about the day to day fight there is so much more involved.

The desire to be in better health and at an appropriate weight

goes further than just a vane ideal of how we want to look physically.

We have a desire to live a longer and healthier life that we can share with our

loved ones in meaningful ways.

Gang….. “Our fight” most of the time is not for our life even though it does

affect our health. There are many others that are actually fighting for their lives

and are day in and day out taking steps similar to what we have set up to do

and in the process being an example of dedication and attitude.

It is all abut how important things are.

It is all about figuring out what it is that will make us get off our behinds

and actually set goals, make plans, commit wholeheartedly and then:

GO DO IT

IT IS NOT EASY BUT IT IS DOABLE AND, IT IS WORTH IT.

Wishing each and every one of you the best.
