actually. i just woke up

It seem that as of late I have been asked way too many times:

“What Made You Decide To Change?”

One day, I just decided that no one person or no one situation

would ever have so much power over me.

I decided that those friends who continually tell you I will pray for you

but never offer you a coin when broke or a piece of bread when hungry

have no true and vested interest on us.

That if it had to be it was up to me, therefore I promised my self never to

ask another “Don’t let go of me.”

That I am worth it not because of me but because of the one who created me.

I realized that I wanted and deserved a better, longer, healthier and happy life.

That a failed relationship did not preclude me from finding love again.

That having been overweight did not mean that I was to stay that way.

That loosing my position, and wealth only meant that I had something else coming.

That there would be someone who would take and accept me as I was, and to whom

my struggles and challenges would not be a deal breaker as they made their presence felt and,

carried some of the load and at times all of the load so that I did not have to face the world alone.

Because I had those that did pray but, they did not pray for me…They prayed with me.,

a lot has changed and my life now reflects it.

NO. Prayer in any form is not bad or unwelcome, but I remember what my parents taught

all of us as kids: after we pray on our knees we get up and go and pray with our hands, feet

and backs so we can do our part in making ours and other people’s miracles a reality.

I am thankful., oh so thankful for the many kindness I have received during the last couple of years.

I know that I have a purpose and if I have a day or a hundred years

I will work every day and in some way re-pay all that was given to me.

I want more. I want better.

I want health, wealth and a family

And that is why my prayer is never for things to be given to me,

or for life to be easy, and not even for many friends.

All I ask from GOD is for my loved ones to be healthy and safe,

and for me, Peace of mind.

With that I can and will take care of the rest.

The importance of GOALS.

Zig Ziglar Once said “With Out A Goal You will Miss Every Shot You Take”

We need something to shot for, and have in our minds a clear idea of what it is that we want, and where do we want to end at in our journey.

I promised on my last post that I would make available to anyone who “Asked” my goals and daily activity sheet, but as I thought about it I decided that I would just make it available on the blog so that I could make it easier for people to see and use.

I ask you to please look at it and if it works for you please by all means use it. BUT, please let me know what you think and maybe., some ideas as to how we can make it better so that we can together help others work on their goals.

Those of us that already had our surgery know that we had an idea, a goal, a dream of who and how we wanted to look at the end. I am not different or better than anyone else so I have made use of every tool I could get my hands on. This form is the result of me wanting to keep that idea clear in my mind, but also keep the accountability where it belonged: ON ME. I wanted to keep the dream alive and present.

If you see the guidelines that have been set for us maybe just like me you will say: “they are out of their bleeping minds”. I did. According to the American Dietetic Association I should weigh at the most 178 #’s being that I a male and I am 6 feet 1 inch tall. Yeah Right.

When I got down to 230 #’s I look like I was sick. Everybody was worried that I had contracted some kind of sickness or something. I felt great though. I think that the main reason I look “not good” was that I was not exercising or doing much activity. Now, I have learned and I want to get to and remain between 200 and 230 #’s. As I have increased my activity level I noticed that my face and body look better. I know by looking at my self and not paying attention to what anyone else says or thinks that I am on the right track.

People, please make sure that you have a goal in mind that is YOURS and no one else. Make sure that you are doing this for YOUR own reasons. Make sure that this process is something you are doing because YOU want it, and answer to YOU and only to YOU.

I have mentioned a picture. The picture that made me decide to take extra measures. I realized that I had let go of me, and I needed to fix me. I needed to bring me back.

I was sick and tired all of the time. I was in the worst shape of my life even though someone told me (trying to be funny) that round was a shape. So here it is.

I thank her for allowing me to post this picture. I do not know who should be more embarrassed, if I for allowing myself to get this big. OR her for being seen with me.

Guys we all have different reasons to do what we do so make sure that you have yours, and that they are important enough for you to always keep in mind and make you stay focused.

I will also add the form and hope that it will be of use to you, and that you will please post a message letting me and others know what it is that you think and how you think we can make it better.

This is the last Sunday of November.

Have you written your goals for the next year?

Take it for a test drive. Write your goals and keep them present

all year-long and see if your life does not changes completely.

Make economic goals, Work on them and see if you do not end up better.

Make health goals. See if you don’t end up healthier.

Make weight loss goals. Your scale will thank you. It works.

Go to you tube and search Jim Rohn on goals setting, then search

Tony Robbins on life goals and there you will see the blue print for

goal setting. If you want to go the extra mile and have a month,

get and read the book “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy

and see your life transform, and improve.

Gang I can wish you all the best till I am blue on the face,

but it will take you putting some action for the good to come.

More To Life.

Last year around this time I hit us rather hard

with the whole goal setting thing and, I still think

that it is most important. BUT I also want to say

that life is more than just working out and worrying

about our weight. It is more than counting calories

and evaluating water characteristics.

Gang there are friends and family and hobbies and

countless books that also require our attention.

I was looking at my e reader and I have about

400 books. (yes amazon loves me) I noticed that

I had 46 book in progress meaning I had started

and had not gone back to as of yet.

I Love Photography. A lot., and if I could I would

hit the trail with my camera and just hit the shutter.

I miss quiet times with a good book and the

walks on the desert or trails up in the mountains.

We have to be about more than just weight loss.

Yes let’s try to be healthy always but let’s also

remember to be present in the moment.

Road 2

I just want to share the road where I do my daily walk.

I try to do 4.5 miles every day and it works out ok for the most part.

This is the time I use to clear my mind. The time I use to get centered

and plan for the rest of the day. I also use this time to ground my self.

At times the urgent takes the place of the important and we must

be able to differentiate the one from the other.

Whatever your routine is make sure that you keep it in mind.

Stay committed to you and your goals do not start your day

by losing the first battle to the comfy bed.

MAGIC DIET PILL !!!!!

What is the most important thing for weight loss?? Diet, Exercise, Activity, Attitude? It is all equally important I have found but, if there is something that I have seen make a difference in many of the people that I have known is the fact that they were committed. There are many experienced and educated persons like me out there that regardless of the knowledge and experience failed at the weight loss game. I trained people on weight loss and therapeutic diets so I knew better and yet I failed consistently. It was the lack of commitment to the weight loss that kept me from realizing my goal. And a good MONDAY to us all.

Ok gang I have a question for all of us and here it goes.

If you were here, at the end and beginning of a nude beach

and you could see many girls and guys just having a blast

would you feel ok dropping your threads and joining them?

OR… Would the image in the mirror of the  prior morning

stop you from joining in the fun.

No Clue what your answer was but mine was a respectful and

considerate NO. I am not there yet. I think I would still walk by

being that I am an adult & all, but I would definitely not disrobe.

I am weird in that I truly do not care what people think but

for me it is in the knowing of the people around me OR not

knowing anyone.

Why this post? This one is to remind us all that if something, anything

is not where and how we want it them we must do something about it.

Don’t like how you feel? Do something about it.

Don’t like where you live? Do something about it.

Don’t like how you look? Do something about it.

Don’t like your job? Do something about it.

Not happy in your relationship? Do something about it.

Change is not easy but being unhappy and unfulfilled is worse.

In case you were distracted we have been given a brand new

week to go and try again. Let’s make it count.

Truly, on this one there are two and only two pains.

Life is intent on providing us with choices, and what we do with them

I know and know that I know I want more and better, but

at times I too have lost the battle to the blankets,

dessert was too pretty to pass and…… Here we are or

should I say here I am.

I am constantly making progress but at times that weak

little boy within me wants to rebel and do sh…. stuff he is

not supposed to.

I have a weight goal and it inspires me. I have a dream of wearing the same size pants that I used before I got married back in 1986. But I also am smart enough to know and notice how well my body works as I loose the pounds. The extra energy and stamina. I notice how I can sleep better and even breath better. I love that my back pain almost disappears and the purple color on my feet and ankles goes away. So yes a pounds goal and a size in clothes is nice but for me I have to say feeling so much better in my own skin is truly priceless. Find your why and rock on with your bad self!! Jose G. You Have The Power!

you have the power

We have a God-given right to choose.

Our decisions impact our life and that of those around us family and friends.

All of the little and seemingly insignificant decisions we make day in and day out

have the cumulative power to change and affect our lives.

There is a book titled the compound effect by Darren Hardy Publisher of Success Magazine.

In it Darren shows us the power both negative and positive that each and every decision

we make, can make a difference on the quality of our life.

The extra glass of wine, the fun size chocolate packet, or the extra serving of ice cream

can add up to significant calories, grams of carbs, grams of fat whatever you want to track.

BUT, just as well taking the extra steps by parking a little farther, drinking an extra glass of water,

walking just a little extra, adding a set to our workout, using mustard instead of mayo, etc.

has an effect. What will it be? The positive or negative?

We have the power to decide, we have the opportunity to change our tomorrows and,

by doing that change our life.

Use your power for good., for good longer living.

Fear No Monday

One of the rules that I found is worth

of us always keeping is: “Never fail on Monday”

We must work out every Monday!

We must keep our Diet every Monday!

We must take our pills every Monday!

It has been shown in studies just how much

the “Monday Effect” can impact the rest of

the week., it seems that both monkeys and

humans tend to somehow be more inclined

not to follow through when Monday is not

addressed correctly.

There is so much in life. There is more than just seeing others live theirs.

I see this pic and it makes me smile as I see two of the things that I

actually have a passion for in life. A nice good watch and a great camera.

Lately, I have made so much of my life about my health and

weight loss. Because of my extreme circumstances I have had to

 put lots of living on the back burner. Now am trying to catch up

with myself. Yes, health and fitness are very, very important, but living

and enjoying the other aspects of life is also very important.

It is great how we human beings are able to compartmentalize our

life. Yes I want to be healthy but I want someone to share it with.

Yes I want to live longer but I want someone relevant by my side.

I want more. I want more. I want more!

Do you want more? Because if you do let me tell you that

balance is the base for it all. It is not just this or just that,

it is “AND”. Yes a small word but an important one.

Here it is to us. The nuts that hope AND want for more.

On Changes.

It requires change and a bit of desire.

If you had WLS you know you have made the investment

already, so why not use the tool you purchased?

Follow the guidelines, drink the water, measure the food,

take your meds, and make sure you are taking your vitamins.

Not rocket science even though at times it feels like it.

And, if you add activity and exercise you just turbo-charged

the program. so hang on and keep rocking it.

Expectations.

I hate it whenWe must decide what it is that we want, and once we do that

take the steps to accomplish it. Not any easier but clearer.

We live in an “Immediate satisfaction” society that has no patience

for planning, and organizing but even less for consistent

on-going daily work.

WE, however understand that our commitment, planning,

and consistent work will provide us the success needed to

support the next round of battles.

Gang, we know that it is not the easy but the consistency where

the success lies.

Let us keep going so that we might continue to be examples

to those observing us, those wanting to attain some of the

same success nectar. Continue to be an example.

Continue to put the work needed.

Let us all continue to make progress, daily progress.

Making Progres.

Gang., we make or break goals with our actions

or the lack of. We know what we want and

we know why we want it. Then why the heck

is it so hard at times? Why are we so weak

that innocent chocolate and delicious pizza

can whip us into submission.

I don’t really know and I tell you I have given

it a lot of thought.

What I do know is that I will try again and

again until I win. Sooooo  the question is:

Will you try with me? Will you rinse and repeat

when needed and try again with me?

Why wait for tomorrow?
For those of us who are on the road to a better US there is no place for tomorrow., not at the price of a better life.
We do not make excuses for others or for ourselves and that makes us at times the target of jokes, slander, abuse, good and bad intentions and it is our job to maintain the higher ground.

Zero tolerance!! For ourselves when we hesitate between the scheduled and the accidental. When we fail to do what is important and instead we allow the urgent to rule.
To fail to follow our diet just because “it is just a little piece”
For not taking our vitamins and medicine as prescribed instead of “at times”

Tomorrow is the biggest thief. The biggest reason why goals, diets, dreams, wishes and desires do not happen as they should.

As a Hispanic I am very familiar with the term “Manana” Manana does not mean tomorrow., it means “Not Now”

So I ask you If not today, if not now,Then When?

How about right now? How does right now sounds to you?

Which Is The Meassure Of Your Success?

So? What is it for YOU?

Who cares what others say or think? Who cares what is important to others. What is important to YOU?

Is it a clothes size? A waist measure? The blinking numbers on your scale?

I do not know since I do not know you personally but keeping track of what is important to us is always a great Idea.

Folks are you familiar with the book “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy? If you are you know how important tracking is,

and if you are not I hope you will take a small piece of advice from me and get you this book. You can get it on audio form or e-book or print form.

Regardless of how you choose to get it you will get information that will help you accomplish any goal you are working on.

A most valuable resource.

Tracking what we eat, our progress, our needed steps, etc., will keep the goal ever-present.

Define what matters to you. Define what it is that you have to do and go for it.

OK. As promised a little bit on food. For those of us that have undergone Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) or those

that are thinking of getting it done here is some insight.

Due to the reduced space for food to go trough on the way to the stomach., the consistency of food must always be taken into consideration

when prepping and when cooking. A small dice will work for most once we get past the initial stage after the surgery.

Make sure you invest in a good quality knife and that it is maintained sharp and always at the ready.

Chewing is the other part of the equation. Make sure that you spend enough time chewing on your food as to avoid getting stuck.

On this I have to add my personal challenge here. IF I allow myself to get too hungry I eat way too fast, and always end up

getting stuck and before long I am throwing up. A most unpleasant experience for those of us that had WLS.

On Self Love

Why we do what we do? I had to learn that while it was ok to continue to give to others and of my self., I had to find love to and for myself. It is not an egotistical journey but an adventure of discovery and self realization. I celebrate a pound lost or a size reduced. I am happy for an inch and happy for a ounce. I am happy to be doing better. Celebrate you progress. Because I am sure you will agree that not going back is progress in and of it self. Staying at the same weight for a long time is an issue but from one week to the next it just means that you were able to deal with cravings and temptations. Just Do Not Go Backwards. I noticed also that at times food and the warm bed won over our commitment to work on our weight loss plan. BUT.. I also noticed that when we re-committed to our goals we made amazing progress. This shows that were we to remain 100% committed 100% of the time this weight loss thing would be a done deal. BUT as someone who has failed at times I acknowledge that it is hard., possible but hard. We must have a plan. We must work plan. We need to have goals and they need to be ever present. Changes.

Small Changes

Doing the little things., drinking more water, exercising two to three times a week,

paying attention to what we eat and on and on.

The little things that if we do them make a world of difference.

But., if we don’t then… It is time to make the small changes and kick it into gear.

Little thing by little thing, one step at a time.

Eventually Good Things Come.

GOOD THINGS COME TO

I am happy to report that the last of my writing works is now finalized, approved, published and for sale at Amazon.
The first of a series of works on diverse topics ranging from food and cooking to life and living and I even tried to write about relationships but being that I am no expert on that department I quickly changed my mind and changed course.

Anyway…. My titles “El Sabor De Mi Mexico.” The Flavor Of My Mexico and “Sonoran Style Soups” By Yours Truly Jose G. Osuna has seen the light of day. This is a collection of original and authentic Salsa’s and soups made with nothing but fresh ingredients for those of us trying the whole “Clean Eating” but full of flavor for those looking for original flavors and textures.

It should have been done a long time ago but so many challenges got in the way health, geography, economical, worst health, etc., Regardless that was then and this is now. I hope you would please take a look at it and I welcome any ideas, criticism, opinions, improvements in particular just keep it original and authentic.

If you answered NO to any of this questions I would like to share with you all something that my mother told me once: “Son., You can accomplish anything you set your mind to. But always remember that the easiest thing to be IS TO BE MEDIOCRE. Do not waste any opportunities and always push for more., for better.”

Our goals must be clear and concise so that as we work with the end in mind the image is clear and inspiring.
But it must also be flexible so we can adjust as our expectations may at times fall short. Inspiration, frustration, desire, etc., will at time make us over reach., we don’t give up or change our goal but in order to continue we adjust. Maybe we change our workout schedule, maybe we adjust our walk distance, maybe we switch our work out days, etc., we adjust but we do not abandon our goals. We don’t abandon our dreams. We don’t abandon Us.

What Is Progress???

GOALS.
I think that we can all agree how important goals are and how important it is to have an end in mind.
The problem comes when we get so caught in making a goal that we forget about progress.
Yes., we might be intent and committed to a loss of 10 pounds per month but hey 2, 5 or 7 pounds lost IS progress. It is movement in the right direction and we must celebrate because we are wining.
We want the big win. We want the glory of meeting the goal and sometimes we get frustrated when it doesn’t happen. Hey progress is progress and we must acknowledge and celebrate it. AND more important we must use it to keep us on task. progress

It is Friday., Now What?

Gang.. The work does not stop because of the weekend.

Stay focused and continue to do the right things even add something new.

Adding even a little activity every day compounds the calories burned.

Drinking more water helps with the expulsion of impurities.

Life’s Lessons

Because I am. I hate it when things don’t go my way.

I hate it when life and the universe don’t see my genius and crap all over my plans.

It is true that we learn more from the setbacks than from things going our way

but I still dislike it with a passion.

I have become better at dealing with set-backs but it still takes an active choice

not to get into an argument with nature, karma, God and every other force in the universe

when things don’t work out my way.

I also try not to waste the lessons of failure and set-backs and strive to get the

last drop of wisdom available to me. (all the while kicking and screaming)

So I ask you again: Are you normal?

What We Want To Be.

Weight loss is so much more than the way we look., it is also the way we feel and the way that we are perceived not just by others but by us as well.
We each have an idea an image of who we are and what we look like under the perfect circumstances but, we know that the perfect circumstances are seldom present.
Does that means that we settle or that we give up? No! it means that we continue to work at it and maintain the goal and the dream alive. We do this with our daily work and the image ever-present in our minds and hearts.
We fight with the tools and weapons that we each have at our disposal. We use the fork at the table and our legs in our walks. Exercise and diet. Patience and understanding. We use the knowledge that others have and so freely give to us by reading and acting on what other bloggers share.
I am so grateful to all of you that read what I write and the blogs that I follow. It reminds me that I am not alone and that in the end and in different ways we are not alone. We are all in this together.
I wish we could track the pounds that we are all loosing. Pound by pound we are making an ever-increasing dent on the mountain of pounds in front of us.
I thank you and wish all the success that our hard work deserves.
We are doing it.
